Please help....My car keeps stalling!
Hey everyone....i wasnt really sure where to put this thread, but since im on the bottle i thought i'd start here. This weekend i got my JWT cams installed, and since then my idle has been really rough and the car has even stalled a few times (something i was aware would possibly happen after visiting the JWT website). I learned that a lot of people have had to raise their idle to 850with these cams, but i dont know how to go about doing so. Is a technosquare reflash the ONLY way i can change/raise my idle?? Does greddy e-manage work?? Any info would really help. Thanks!

Options for raising the idle:
Cipher - buy one or find someone local
Dealership - they can do it not sure on $$$
Reflash - $500-$600
You can always drill a small hole in the TB and that should help as well. I have this done on my motor.

Buying Cipher would be a worthwhile investment. For $400, you can raise idle, adjust global timing, monitor more parameters than you can want and clear ECU, BCM, ABS codes. Not to mention datalog.
I learned about the small holes trick and they were already drilled before the install, but it is still stalling occasionally at idle....Im sorry to sound like an amature, but i've honestly never done a cam job on any of my cars, and this is all new to me. What is a Cipher? Hows it work, and where could i pick one up at?? Also, im upping my jets for the last time to 150shot sometime in early September. Is it just better to just get a reflash from Technosquare since that size jetting is prety much where i want to be at (tuned)? Thanks for the feedback guys!
Cipher is a program that you load on to your PC. It includes a OBDII/USB cable to connect to the diagnostic port. It is available via www.uprev.com or altered atmosphere. Once it's connected to the vehicle, you can choose what parameters you want to monitor, there is so many to choose from. I think you can monitor up to 16 at once. That's all I could get before I got a too many parameter message. If you do data logging, you can view the logs in the programs and it will graph for you. Or, you can view them in an spreadsheet which is saved automatically. Honestly it's the best $400 I've spent on the Z yet. Also, it includes free updates which you'll receive notification of via e-mail. I've include a small sample of what can be done with Cipher. Hope this helps.

This Cipher program seems like it would work really well, but is a little out of my hands in terms of programming. Would my performance shop most likely be able to tune the car w/ this program, setting the rpm where it should be fpr the cams? Also, i have S-AFC untuned, will that interfere in any way with the Cipher? Will I get as much potential out of my car with the Cipher as with a TS Reflash for just 100.00 more? Once again, i really appreciate the replies and input. Thanks
If you are near AAM or Technosquare I would say have them dyno tune yuor ECU. If not, another option is a UTEC that's a little more $$$ but is well worth it. UTEC can also raise idle forgot to mention that earlier.
Im still unsure what i wanna do.....im planning on going turbo in march of next yr so i dont wanna have to do a TS reflash twice, but after talking to my shop they said that the Ciphon was something they didnt know how to use...so i cant go that route either. I think im either stuck with the UTEC, or just flat out putting my car in hibernation early this yr and getting everything running correctly in the spring when my finances are up a bit and i have the turbo...Sigh
Note: Thanks Audible Mayhem for the tip, i drove the car twice today w/ the AC on the entire time and it never stalled :-).....However i wasted far more gas than normal :-(

Vip350zo3...You don't need a shop to use Cipher for you. You load it onto your laptop. Connect the cable provided, to a USB port. Connect the other end to the diagnostic port under the dash. Then within the program click on "adjust target idle rpm" It's really that simple. The program is all GUI. Not only that, but you read DTCs, monitor almost everything the ECU sees. You can also connect to the body control module and turn things on and off within the program. Very useful for troubleshooting pesky switches etc. The UTEC is great and serves it's purpose well as I have one, but Cipher is a great tool to have as well. It works on all newer Nissans as well. I'm not trying to sell you on it, but if you plan on keeping your Z for any length of time, it's a great investment and it's sooooo simple to use.
No programming skills required. If you can use a mouse and can read, you are good to go.
