Dustin,
would working in an Engineer/Architect firm be the kind of work you do? if so, i know the owner of "Meyer Engineers" here in New Orleans and *if* they have an opening i *might* be able to put in a good word for you..
small family run business, but last time i was there they had some hella eye candy working for them..

We take care of 3 hopper dredges, 3 crew boats, and a couple anchor barges. I wasn't technically given the name but I was basically project manager over the building of our new anchor barge. I designed and looked over everything except the hydraulics. I don't really do much engineering work but I do some. I have designed quite a bit of structural and some mechanical items. I have also designed a few fluidization and jet water systems on the dredges. Plus other misc. things.

The man is pretty nice, when I was about 15 he gave me the keys to his Porsche and told me I could go for a spin....fawking dad took the keys from me.
My girlfriends dad is in a company called Jacob's down here and they are hiring up to 5,000 people who can do CNC/Drafting/Engineers. Pay is amazing but you work 60+ hours 6 days a week and you travel a lot. If any of this is something you're looking for hit me up and I'll see what info I can get.
