Your amp is starving for power, that is the reason it is shutting off, and coming on every now and then. Probably at higher volumes. Check for corrosion around the terminals, and if there is none, you need to upgrade the battery, and probably a bigger ground on the battery also. If checking all of those connections and battery terminal yield no results , I'll consider upgrading the power cables.
