About the flex pipe, you do need it. You need to have it there for flexibility of the pipe when the motor is running/moving. Not having the flex pipes would cause stress cracks in the weld areas due to the vibration. The flex pipes will help to reduce the stress when vibration occurs.
Brought it to another shop today.
He suggested that I replace the flex pipe that was replaced with a straight pipe, and to leave the somewhat cracked flex pipe alone.

He also said that I will need o2 simulators.

I'm running an 2003, nismo cat-back, kintex test pipes.

I'm waiting for his call with the quote for full install and repair 1 flex pipe on the nismo y-pipe

You shouldn't need 02 simulators for an 03, just get the spacers check in the DIY forum

If your gojng to spend that much you might as well buy a used y pipe from the forum and you might even be able to get a new one if you look hard enough.

I think you should be ok without a flex pipe but you'd be better off having it. That's why it's there. I think the rubber exhaust mounts help with this problem but it will surely be better to have it there. I don't think you'll need the o2 simulators either. Not for an 03.

What I think I'm going to do is:

Install Kinetex Test pipes with o2 sensors (so simulators)
Keep stock Y-Pipe (throw away nismo)
Install nismo for the rest

Will this cause any problems?

About to call the guy at the shop to tell him not to worry about the y-pipe

You can either fix the flex pipe, replace the flex pipe with straight pipe, use stock y-pipe, or just get another one. If its cheaper to just replace the flex with straight, then do that. But, you may run into problems with the welds cracking later on.

no simulators, just get the spark plug non foulers, trust me don't waist money go to auto zone buy some sparg plug non foulers (two packs of two $4.00)and drill them out. Like I said there is a thread on how to do this in the Do it yourself forum.
