Detroit Area Z List part 3
I'll post this twice to be on both pages-it needed to be on 2 pages.
Stay away from Belle Tire, Royal Oak, Stephenson Hgwy!
They f&*%ed up my brand new powder coated Work wheels! This is the worst of the damage -

Tell your friends. Never go there.
I'm dealing with the issue - and would rather not bi+c4 about it more here. Just wanted to inform my fellow Z folk.

Ouch steve......just ouch........
Yea I wouldn't trust any "chain" tire shop. Especially with aftermarket wheels, i'd try to find a performance shop or something.....
Keep us posted on what actions they're gonna take next.

Alright, probably a dumb question, but that's okay. I'm not too used to being a newbie about any topic, but this seems like a great place to start.
I'd like to begin "modding" my car, and I'm actually planning on heading out to CGI Motorsport's High Performance Driving School on May 26. My plan is to get some new tires and new wheels first, and that's sorta step one.
I've never done anything like that, but I do know what kind of wheels I would like to get. Could anyone guide me through the procedure to what I have to do to get new wheels/tires installed on my car?
(ergh, I hate looking stupid.)

NO problem.
Not a dumb question, this is actually a good one. You'll gat alot of conflicting opinions.
Do you have an idea of the tire you want to get?
Are you going R compound and serious track only use?
Or are you getting a nice aggressive street tire, and wheels?
What wheels are you looking at?
How much do they weight?
What size wheel and tire you looking to get?
This all makes a difference, and everyone will have an opinion on the best tires.
MOST of all WHAT IS YOUR BUDGET!!!!

I was personally looking at the Nismo ones in their catalogue, but I've kinda taken a liking to some 6-spoke Volks (The Evo one?). I believe my wheels are the stock 17" ones, and I reckon I could stick to that or go for 18". I don't know what options I have.
Another question I've had is that: The 350Z has the TPMS. If I had two sets of tires (one for winter and one for summer), how would that work? How's that setup?
Thanks for the assistance.

If you're stritcly talking about swapping tires on only one set of rims then you have nothing to worry about, the TPMS is part of the valve stem and would not be affected by swapping tires.

Personally I would go with 18's all around. One of the reasons for that is because 18" rims have so many tire options avaliable for track, drag, and street. Also, I would prolly get somthing a little wider in the back than the front. Like I said, that is just my opinion and reasoning. Other than that the type of rims and tires you choose are up to you and depend on you application. Like AJ said, its really up to how much you want to spend.
Volk makes an awsome rim by the way, and if you did go that route then im sure you will be happy. Just ask Billy.

I also read here that you do not need TPMS in the wheels. You may get a warning light on the dash, but, that is all. It will drive fine.
Check out the Autocross/Road race section of this forum for advice on being new to tracking.

You car will run fine 'stock' on a track. I've done it. Assuming you get in all 7 runs at the HPDE - plan on replacing pads, rotors, and tires after. You may not need all of those - but plan on it. Do some 'advanced, title' searchnig for new, first time, advice in that section ^^ .

Just wanted to tell everyone to be safe tomorrow - weather's supposed to be real nasty. I wish I could go park my MS3 inside somewhere but it doesn't look like that's happening. I got work all damn day tomorrow.

Don't worry about the TPMS if I were you. I get the light when I run my snow tires in the winter, its really no biggy.
If you are going to get R compounds know that the roads will eat THEM ALIVE, and you only get a few thousand miles out of them IF THAT.
I would put snows on your stock set, and buy a nice set of lightweight and still good looking wheels (budget pending) and a Really nice sticky street tire.
Toyo Proxes, Michelin PS2, etc.
Like Johnny said 18's are probably your best bet, ALOT of options for those. I think the R compound is a bad idea, unless you plan on trailering it to events and putting the R compounds on when you get there. Thats esentially what you will have to do. Its totally up to you though. Do a search I think they have a stciky on it
REMEMBER TO STICK tO YOUR BUDGET!!
Good luck Rob!
