I'm looking at getting a g35 or Z and im really concerned about how this car might perform(or not perform) in the winter months. Anyone have any experiences? advice? i know i need a good set of tires and trac control. is that enough?? I live in Duluth, Minnesota -if anyones ever been here or know of the place drop me a line. Some people tell i shouldn't look into a car like that and others comment that years ago they drove RWD cars without trac and ABS -you just need to know how to drive in the snow.

I hate MN!! yea dude, i wouldnt risk running either one in the winter. ive seen it done though. pretty risky. sports cars thats are RWD and the winter dont mix, it could end up pretty bad. get a Z than get a beater. haha. good luck.

+1 i wouldnt dare drive my Z in the snow being that i hydroplaned in the rain in minneapolis on 35 and hit a guard rail.. But yea definetly get a beater than put the Z in storage, storage insurance is really cheap think i pay $36 a month

I drove mine in the snow and it did fine. Winter tires are a MUST! I wouldn't recomend it if it is hilly or you get a lot of snow. Where I live We only had a few good storms and 1 that was about 3" of packed snow on the road. My winter tires did very well and I was passing other people with 4x4 and FWD. Just take your time and be smart. If at all possible get a winter beater.

I say go for it. I drove mine over the winter last year as well and it was fine. Get yourself a good set of winter tires and be smart and you shouldn't have any problems. The winter tires plus traction control allow you to get around pretty. Especially if we get another mild winter like we got last year. Most people don't realize that the road are really only bad for about 10-12 days during the winter. After a snow fall the roads are bad but then they plow and ice them and the roads are drivable as long as you are smart and don't push the limits. Worst case scenario check Ebay or something like that and get a used set of snow tires, otherwise go to Tirerack.com or another online tires dealers to get your new tires. Don't try to substitute all season tires, you will need to get actual winter tires. I only say that because I have seen people try to save money and get all season tires to use all year long. Not the same, winter tires make the Z a functionable winter vehicle. Again I say go for it if you don't have any other options. Just take it slow and follow the normal winter driving rules and above all don't treat her like a sports car. Myself I luckly don't need to drive mine in the winter so I will be putting mine away until spring. If this is an option then great. Insurance is really cheap. I pay $96 for 6 months over the winter. Either option will work.

 

yea but you still have minnesta rust you have to deal with unless you wash it everyday...

Learn how to drive if you have probs in the winter.
I bought Pirelli winters for the front and Blizzaks in back.
I had no probs through a Michigan winter. I never got even close to being stuck.
Throw 3 80lbs bags of Kitty litter in the back, and this car is a TANK. ( snowy days or nights)
It is better then my G35 Sedan...

 

I didn't even use any weight in the back and I made it up several steep hills with my Dunlop Wintersports. They were actualy kind of sporty feeling even when driving on dry pavement. They have a little squirm from the deep tread, but I was expecting a lot worse feel for winter tires.

I got mine from Tirerack and they also sell winter tire and wheel combo's if you don't want to spend the money to have them mounted and then demounted in spring.
