All you are looking at there are clutches for the most part. It may be your clutch is going, but if you are getting the common grinding, I would think its the trans itself. Nothing in that section is going to resolve that

Yeah, I just wanted to read up on the parts and see what they actually do. Kind of like reverse engineering. I thought maybe if I read some key words or phrases, it would give me a better understanding of the issues. I noticed that it was mostly clutches, so I'll just keep looking.

That's who was texting me. Sorry I missed ya man I was thinking it was someone else and there for was looking for someone else.

Dave, you more than likely need a new transmission. If you're that unsure take it somewhere to just have them take a look at it. The symptoms you talked about awhile ago are all transmission issues. Sorry man......

if your clutch is failing, the engagement point will likely have shifted and be fairly high. You would also notice it slipping under spirited driving.

Things like the throwout bearing will be audible and easily be diagnosed by simply engaging/disengaging the clutch.

when was the last time you changed the trans oil? if it is just getting notchy, sometimes changing the trans fluid will yield pretty good results. If you are getting noticable grinds, and only in certain gears, I think you will eventually be replacing the trans.

From nissan I think they are only about 2400 bucks

$2400

Do not want a used transmission, though.

Last time I changed the oil was at 30k miles. That was 24k miles ago. I don't think my clutch is failing. After I clean up the driveway and garage again today, I'll have to sit and listen to it. There are no loud noises while it sits or when I change gears. There is no chattering when it idles. Nothing noticeable anyway.

clutch failing wouldn't really be audible, just mainly the throw out bearing. a clutch failing will result in slipping in higher gears under load, and a higher engagement point.

If you are at 24k on the fluid, it may be worth it to give that a shot. the trans will naturally get notchy'er in colder weather.

my 2400 was off... though I think that is what my parts girl quoted me a little while back.
performance nissan has them listed for 1838.06... actually not bad considering that is what I paid for my clutch

heck, now that's even cheaper than a decent twin disc..carbonetic twin disc carbon
