Drag Meet. It kind of conjures up images of Big Block Chevelles squaring off against 428CJ Mustangs, lots of rubber smoke and wailing engines. Well, it’s not so melodramatic as that, but it is exciting!
Our June drag meet is a tradition, a right of spring! It’s a chance to exercise your car you have fussed over all winter, work out the kinks, so to speak!
St. Thomas drag way in Sparta Ontario, it’s where the ******** stops and the horsepower talks! Invite that noxious neighbor with the Triumph TR6 he thinks is so fast!
Drag racing is simple in theory and practice. In bracket race mode, you choose an elapsed time in practice, and try for consistency in E.T. The competitor closest to his chosen time wins. This is repeated throughout eliminations to determine the winner who most closely and repeatedly nails his “Dial In”, or E.T. Heads up racing is for low E.T., highest speed and first through the trap lights. You could, theoretically, lose your race with the lowest E.T. if you didn’t go through the finish line first.
On race day our club has it’s own lane, one of about six that all lead to the staging area. During practice you may be paired off with a 5.0 Mustang or GNX Buick or worse! But don’t worry, just focus on your reaction time launch, shiftpoints, and nailing your dialed in elapsed time. During our club eliminations we only race against each other.
When you are directed out of the lanes and into the pre staging area, you have the opportunity to warm up your tires. With street tires a modest burnout is sufficient, there is a wetted area to do this. If you don’t want to burnout, drive around the wet spot or it will make your tires slippery when you launch. The starter will direct you to the line one at a time. Each lane has a beam of light to detect your front tires. Once both cars are staged the “Christmas tree” or signal light starts. Six yellow lights for each lane will flash a second apart in descending order, then the green light. The time to go is part way through the last yellow light, it’s tricky. If your tires break out of the light before the end of the last yellow light you will have red lighted and your run doesn’t count. Perfect reaction time is 0.50 seconds. After your run it’s posted in lights along with your E.T. and top speed.
Your car will be teched before you race. You need good brakes, good tires, no leaks, and a catch bottle for coolant. Helmets are required only if your car goes faster than 13 seconds E.T. Few cars can do that, although club member Doug Mitchell may this year.
To race the charge is $35.00, to spectate is $15.00 I think. Come early, gates open at 9:00 AM. We usually get a grassy paddock area right at the starting line. This year there is an event called “The Hot Rod Reunion” taking place, so space may be at a premium. This event is a great opportunity schmooze and display your baby!
Trophies will be awarded in the following classes:
- Number 1 Eliminator
- Number 2 Eliminator
- 350Z
- 300ZX Low E.T.
- 300ZX Turbo Low E.T.
- 280ZX Low E.T.
- 280ZX Turbo Low E.T.
- 280Z Low E.T.
- 240-260Z Low E.T.
- Non-Z Low E.T.
Come on out, it’s gonna be a blast! Check The Website for late-breaking details! See you there!

i've seen maybe 2 z's in the past 3 months. maybe its just the area i live in. i dont mind, more people to oogle over my car.
you cant attach video files yancy, you can only link them from another server. double check with "mikewazowski", he'd know for sure. his real name is victor and he's a mod on this website.
this track day sounds pretty interesting. the 3 hour drive is not great and im sure ill get hasseled at the border going both ways. the site says that theres the ontario z car club meet going on that day, so i guess its an official z meet. might be worth the trip if other local people go.
does the ontario z car club have a website? need some more info. how many 350z's are in the ontario z club? you put 350z's in their own catogory. it wouldnt be worth it to make that long trip to only see a handfull of 350's. also, i didnt see a "low E.T." next to the 350z catagory. does that mean we'll be going up against those 8-10 second cars? not fun. more info please....
on another note. i put some spacers on my rear stock wheels. i saw someone on ebay selling their 25mm spacers off of their g35 and i had to buy them. very nice effect over the stock look. i have to get some 15mm spacers for the fronts now to balance things out.

If anyone is looking for something to do Saturday, there is a car show up here at Ferris. Here's the details. Looks like there's going to be a nice turnout. There's a bunch of other stuff going on, too. Rapper Fabolous will be performing along with others at a free show. I know it's a couple hour drive for most of you, but I just thought I'd let you know.
Yancy try posting on www.xceedspeed.com. They may have more experience with local aftermarket paint shops. If you find a good one tell me because I will have that nismo wing to paint and put on. I had decent luck with autometrics on 10 and telegraph but it was an insurance job.
i saw yancy today on hall road today.... good god crazy car. anyways here is a little bit about me. Im 19 years old and just got my sivlerstone Z last thursday, 800 miles bone stock still. I had a audi TT before that but filed a lemon law suit agains them for a host of problems. ummm i go to wayne state university studying Mechanical Engineering and am just car crazy at the moment. i look foward to meeting u all and getting to know my car better. so far it blows the TT away in power and is about equal to it in handeling but well see how winter goes since i have to make this my daily driver. I heard the blizzak (spelling) tires are really good. i use aol instant messenger alot so my spelling is usualy crappy.

Is it time for another meet? Lets look out a couple of weekends. Maybe last weekend in May.?
I canceled the Injen exhaust. They are backordered and I didn't want them to hold my $850.

The last weekend of may is Memorial day weekend. We may not get a good turnout. How about May 15th or June 5th ?
I got the feathering taken care of last week. I got 2 large gouges on one of the rims. They are supposed to call me back when they find a place that they can send the rim to get repaired. Always problems. I always have to go a second time...

May 15 is the XceedSpeed BBQ at Stony Creek Metropark. There is always a very big turnout and it's a great time. I went to both of them last year and will be doing the same this year. To give you an idea of how much fun it is, I'm skipping a wedding and driving almost three hours just to go. A number of us from the West Michigan Z Club will be heading down in a caravan.
This year there will also be a event at Milan after the BBQ. This will be geared more towards sport compacts. Domestics must have full interior, roll up windows, and can't be tubbed. This should be a lot of fun, too.
It would be cool to have a big row of 350Z's parked at the BBQ. last fall there was a row of about 10 MKIV Supras, so we should try to top that.
For more info, check out: http://www.xceedspeed.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14930

Yancy and J, I had my nismo wing painted and installed at Emery Collision(sp?) In westland. The guy that runs the place used to work for nissans paint department. They did a killer job on it. I know that's quite a drive for you Yancy. I was actually out in your neck of the woods yesterday looking at a sportbike I'm buying.
Hey etx, thanks for the info on painting. I just dropped the body kit and spoiler off at a shop today. Its only about 5 minutes from my work and the price was right. Should be done and ready for me to install this Friday.
The meet at Stoney Creek sounds very interesting and I'll also probably go.
JonathanAboona, welcome to the board man. Sweet color combo on the Z too.
