Default Re: Track Time at MI International Speedway

I did this last year with my Z. It was a lot of fun. It is a very well run program. Along with the track sessions there is classroom time that will help you understand the fundamentals of performance driving. Lots of in car instruction also. Due to the cost of this program the class sizes are smaller and the on track mentality is more educated. Diversity of vehicles ran from the family Ford Contour to a Ferrari F-40, with some Porches, Vetts, & others. I was never jammed up behind anyone for more than a few turns. This is a fast hard braking track since you use both the inner road course then enter the oval at turn 3 and then back to the road portion after the front straight, if you push it you will be slowing down after the straight from about 130+. You MUST at the very least change your brake fluid to some flavor of racing fluid. If your not running on Brembo or some other BBK, your rear pads will probably be toast. I went home with metal to metal scraping and screetching because I didn't bring a replacement set of pads. If you can swing it I'd do both days. About 1/2 as many drivers show up on Sunday, leaving you more time & more space to drive. I did this course bone stock & had a blast.
Can you recomend a brake fluid as well as a pad type and manufacturer?

Thanks

Yeah man, that's a good idea. I live about 15 min from bww and about 25 min from Milan. It would be very cool to caravan down there! As always I'm down for whatever, but the track is all i'm gonna be thinkin about that day.

This is why, I got some goodies today.

damn you etx. let me know when its finished.

glad to see theres some interest in this. i guess we'll just focus on one meet at a time. so i got rid of the other 2 potential meet dates. im getting too far ahead of myself.

should i PM or e-mail the people that are on our z list? i dont want to annoy anyone. maybe ill pm them, and then 1-2 weeks before the meet ill email whoever hasnt responded to my PM. is that too much?

J, Yeah I am installing it myself. I installed the RC440's and the emanage last night. I'm hopeing to get a lot done on it this weekend so that I can test fit and modifty some of that parts to my likeing.

Last night I while working on the car I realised the weld racing wheels I have for my eclipse have the same bolt pattern as the Z! So I have slicks for it, woo hoo. I can't wait to make a couple passes at milan.

just finished installing my xerd test pipes. what a pain in the ace that was. they didnt even send me any nuts and bolts to go with it, and i couldnt reuse the stock ones. i had to wait a few hours for the instant gasket stuff to dry up. any way. im a bit iffy with the way it sounds. i really really like the sound when its just sitting there, or when im below 4k, but after that it gets a little weird. im not going to say raspy, but the sound is weird. maybe when the gasket seal dries up completely and i get some carbon build up, then the sound will get "better". i dont know. as for power. i wont be able to really get on it until tomorrow. oh and i installed the 2 step colder denso's last night.

i am having some problems. i already had the feathering tsb done, but the sound coming from the wheels is back again and its loud this time. taking the car in to the dealership tuesday. this car has soo many damn creeks and noises that it kills me. to top it all off, the paint under my clear coat on my front bumper is cracking. just the paint. its smooth to the touch. anyone had this problem?

a little update on the list...

Dam the test pipes where hard to install? I might have someone do it for me then. I am going to get another bung welded into the drivers side pipe for an additional O2 sensor for my A/F Gauge. My car sounds like a truck also under 25 it is almost unbarable. Is there any real fix for this? I am taking the car into dick scott on monday. I also need the 7500 mile checkup. ETX take some picks of the install. I cannot wait to see it. We will have to plan on another track day.

Well I did it. Just bought Injen SES1985RS Cat Backs. They should be here by next weekend. I know what I will be doing on Saturday. Just a couple more items before our meet on April 3rd and I'm all set.

What do you guys think of air guides? I have seen both Aluminum and Carbon Fiber one. Do they help push air to the intake? I ask this because if that is the case, then the air going into the engine should be cooler.

heh

im 23

jspec, what a/f gauge did you end up getting? i want one, but im still waiting on the dual guage pod from 350z tech. are you going to get a pressure gauge or just stick to the a/f gauge only?

as for the air guide. im not really too sure as to how "effective" they are. but if nothing else they look cool. actually they're useless in my case. my injen intake filter is mounted in the opening of my front bumper, so its getting all the air is going to need. it all depends on the look your going for. ill probably end up getting the aluminum one just because i have the polished aluminum intake, and all of the plastic engine bay parts i've painted silver. if your buying anything carbon fiber for your engine bay, then you might as well stick to a cf air guide. i'd rather get cf myself, but its not going to look good with everything else being silver. my .02

Chadi, I had wadd3456 make me a stainless steel gauge pod and nitrous switch hold it looks sweet!! I am going to use the autometer A/F gauge I have (Carbon fiber) and a Carbon fiber EGT gauge. I am trying to decide on switches still looking though. Here is a picture not my car but an idea what it will look like. This is the back not the front so the stainless looks kinda dull.
