sponsors?
A few thoughts on this from somewhat of an outsider:
The event was advertised (at least on the Etown flyers) as being a Z/G day. There were more non Z/G cars racing than actual G/Zs, probably because it's just the nature of the drag racer to gravitate toward the cheaper cars, and next year, and each successive year the amount of Z/Gs racing will grow, since the cars will slowly get cheaper. Cheaper initial investment leads to more racers buying the cars. However, if the event had been advertised as a general Infiniti/Nissan day, welcoming anything Nissan, no matter the platform, the turnout would have been much better. There isn't anything wrong with promoting the Z/G as the pinnacle cars, just like the Mitsu guys do with the Evo, but just like the Mitsu guys, the Evo guys have had to learn that you can't assume that your cars will A) run faster than the older, more developed cars, or that B) you can have a successful event without including a broader base of cars, since the amount of people that paid to race probably included more non Z/G cars than Z/G owners.
Second, while I understand that it is a new event, if you want it to be successful, you need to make sure that the event is run in the style of a professional event. This means to thank every one of the sponsors or people who donate to help make the event what it is, thank the people that pay their money to attend, and to pay attention to what the attendees want, and be sure to give it to them. An example:
Signgirl Racing donated a 3M clear bra, paint protective kit for the 350Z, along with making 2 of the banners that MRC had on display at their booth. I didn't hear her mentioned at all throughout the day. Having said that, I left early due to a family emergency and did not get to listen to the announcing during the racing part, but I wanted to wait to see if she got any mention as a sponsor on the boards. After a few days, I see that nothing was mentioned, and now I feel the comment is warranted. If you want people to help you out by donating things to an event, make sure that they're mentioned, which helps them. Otherwise, they will get a bad taste in their mouth about the event organizer (MRC in this case), and that will color their decision to try to promote local, essentially grassroots racing events in the future.
Having said that, it may not seem like a big deal that a little sponsor wasn't mentioned, and if you think it's a small deal, then you need to look at the bigger picture. If it happens to small sponsors, it could easily happen to larger sponsors (use Greddy as an example). Think how such a large company would react to not having a positive result from trying to support a racing event. Having companies give back to the community is a great, and if they get a positive feeling from it they will continue to do it. If they have a negative result, they will bail out. Not to say that they will leave the market, (they'll gladly keep taking your money) but they won't give anything back.
Now, go back to the first example. If a small company is ignored, word WILL spread, since import racing is still a relatively small community in the greater scheme of things. It's a vicious cycle, and one that I wouldn't like to see repeated.
If someone helps you, promote the hell out of them. It will always be to your benefit in the end.
Take it easy.

I embraced and supported the event having dealt with larger shops before so I understood how it should work as a sponsor for MANY events previous to this. The small turnout did not disappoint me, it's the first year and next year will (hopefully) be doubled with the proper community support. The guys at MRC did a decent job at organizing. It's not an easy thing to organize an event such as this one.
The lack of conversation between people bothered me since there was an apparent dividing line between show, the "other groups" and participants. I was almost more amused by the nissan guys that had the guts to show up and race while some people sat around complaining about the heat. That's a day at the track, that's the way it is.
A question to the attendees...did anyone receive a flyer advertising signgirl.com or signgirlracing.com? Was anyone rewarded a 3M bra kit for winning a race at the event? I am not trying to bash Jay at all- I think he has a great shop and a great car with awesome times, the event was good for the first year. I am just thinking as small sponsor I may have been accidentally overlooked during the excitement of it all. 2 banners for MRC valued at $350, clear bra kit valued at $225, and I had to pay to race. Hmmm.

I did receive a flyer. I believe it was in the bag at the voting tent. I gotta say, though, those folks at the voting tent were not trying to give those bags away at all. We went up there to deposit our vote and inquired about the catalogs and bags sitting there. Then we were told "oh yeah, go ahead and take all ya want."
Did anybody else see anything different? Because, to be fair, its not like we were out at the show area all day, so maybe we just went out after or before all the hoopla??

What bag
At Modified Madness @ PSU when you rolled up to pay or show your pre-registration paper there were ppl there handing out goodie bags while you were still in your car before you parked. That way they made sure that all the paying ppl got the bags.
Some good points were brought up in this thread and probably will get acted on for nxt time. I'm sure there is a things to do list that got started for next year.
I still have no complaints. First time show it was kewl.

I want to go back and autocross myself, but I'm having a hard time finding good info about it. The autox4u.com site is pretty confusing. Just to give an example, it tells me there is a meet on July 3rd at PNC. But it says its for the M-club .... ok, what the hell is the M-club? Do I need to have an M car to run? Then it has a registration page. OK, so I can register? ARe there any restrictions? Requirements? Can anybody sign up, pay money, and run? Then it says :
We confirmed 3 Fridays in the summer – with the split format of a school in the morning (9am- 2pm) and autocross in the afternoon (3pm – 8pm) - August 5 and August 26.
Ummm... what kind of school we talking about? Is that a separate fee? Do I just pay $40 and I get lessons AND can race??
Well... sorry, all of this is kinda getting off the subject at hand ... if anyone has a website with all this kind of info for newbies to auto-X, I'd appreciate the link. Thanks.

The first time I went auto-xing, I just showed up with my car. That's pretty much all you need to do unless pre-reg is required. The M-Club is just sponsoring/organizing the event. Any car can run. Just check to see if its an auto-x, rally, or other.
Usually they will have loaner helmets, but they are pretty nasty. Especially in the summer with other newbs using them. The requirements are basically having your car in proper working condition. They inspect the car to make sure everything is in order. You need to remove everything from your trunk/glove box/cubby holes. Also need to remove floor mats.
The school sits you down with an instructor who will walk you through the auto-x course. He'll show you how to read the cones and what to do. He will also be in the passenger seat with you as you drive the course.

As far as the event goes, I originally proposed it to The track as Nissan /Infinity day, They took it upon themselves to badge it as Z day..
I promoted it as open to ALL Nissan and Infiniti's..
Oh and PS Jason had to PAY to race also, despite us giving away alot of product and labor..Go figure..

Oh, and did anyone notice there was like 3 people from MRC doing EVERYTHING...
I personally did all the following by myself which led to me having a mild heat stroke that day, I was throwing up from 2pm till 10 pm that night..
1) setting up the tent/Display..
2) Talking to customers
3) stuffing goodie bags
4) handing out flyers
5) judging the rest of the cars the NJ Z club REFUSED to judge..
6)handing out posters
7) handeling complaints from the Infinity guys about the Z club..
8)bringing stuff back and forth for the raffle
9)announcing the Infinity winners (following a 20 minute Vomit session)
I had minimal help from anyone, Jason was busy racing,Mike was manning the MRC booth..Tara helped me alot with the goodie bags..It just seemes at these events no one helps out when it is crunch time..Next event I am EXPECTING a crew of people to help make things run smoothely, I simply could not be everywhere at once..In fact there were several people who shared our shade under the tent, drank out water and did absolutely nothing to help...This needs to be addressed next time..
