RE-040s + Snow = No Go!
My Z got its first taste of snow this morning. I wasn't able to put it in the garage last night since other cars were parked in front of it so it spent the night outside. Well, my brother went to move my Z while I was at work so he could shovel the driveway and he couldn't even get it out of the driveway! He tried pulling it into the garage but there is a very small hump going into the garage (like 1/2"), and it wouldn't make it over that! I've noticed those RE-040's are downright terrible when it is cold. Even on a dry road in the cold they are like ice. I was pulling out of school last night before it even started snowing, and without even getting on it the car spun the tires pulling out of the spot and then again pulling out of the parking lot. They don't seem to be much better in the cold than a set of Nitto NT555-R's.
Has anyone put snow tires on their Z yet, and if so, how did it do? I don't plan on driving mine in the snow (I have my sister's corolla since she is in Australia), but I'm curious to how well the Z does in the snow with a proper set of tires. You would think with VDC, TCS, and a limited slip it should do pretty well.

i believe some people on this forum alreadyhad bridgestone blizztak lm 22 on their Zs. it looks like the Z holds very well in the snow with the proper set of tires. i agree with you the stock tires are crap. planing to upgrade my wheels and tires soon.

Huh? The tires generate the traction, so if you change the tires you will magically get traction and not get stuck. Up to a point. I doubt the Z will make it through 6 inches of snow because you'll be a "snowplow"
I'm waiting for delivery on my 350Z and still drive my 300ZX. The last couple of years I bought (2) 70lb bags of sand and tossed them in the back over the rear tires (cost less then $10 total). It made a big difference in traction.
It's not an excuse for snow tires, but the first time I tried it I was stuck at the Oregon Coast when it started snowing. It allowed me to get over a snow-covered pass (6 inches of new unpacked snow) on the Coast range with stock street tires. So, weight in the back will definitely help. And if you really get stuck, you can always use the sand!

The REO40's are a summer tire, not an all season, they are not meant at all to be driven in the snow. That is why of all the complaints. I do agree though, they do suck all around....I can't wait till the spring to replace them with good tires.....
