Hi I might have a job oppurtunity over there and one option is to bring the Z over from California and live in an apartment over there as long as it has a garage or two buy myself a beater. I would stay 1 year max since most of my family are in California. So what price would a studio apartment with a garage be like? Average price in my area near my industry is about 1200 for a studio no garage. I'm staying with a roommate in a 2 bed 2 bath car port for 1500.

It all depends on were in NY your moving to.If it's manhattan and you can find a garage that spot can cost $400 a month 2 spots will be tough.Rent in the city would start at 1k and up for a studio.

 

if you want near NYC, then your talking either Jersey or Southern NY. I dont know Jersey rental prices so well but it should not be hard to find one for around $1k but the garage may be a problem.
If you want something IN nyc, parking is $300+ a month and rent is going to be around $1k for a small place. Location obviously changes everything.
Southern NY (Rockland County) is approx 20-30 minutes from NYC (less in the Z ) Rent is around $1k for a nice place in a nice area. Garage may be a problem, but if you live in the right area, outdoor parking with a Z should not be a problem.
