Default Speeding points on license in NJ

I just got pulled over today and was doing well over 50 MPH over the speed limit. Anyway, things worked out well for me, but the cop said I could have gotten like 14 or 16 points for what I was doing. Does anyone know about this or had a similar situation?

What would the insurance look like after that? Man, I can't believe how close I was to getting my a$$ handed to me.

Dont Speed is all i gotta say
-3 careless driving -2 points each
-1 wrekless - 5 points
-1 no signal - 2points
-2 40mph over - 5 points each
-and a few more little speeding tickets

basically i should have over 30 points on my license i got a lawyer and i came out of everything with 20 points took a couple classes and im down to 15...lost my license from march7th - november 7th its rough....and my insurance is gonna be around 6500/year.
If this is your 1st ticker i suggest getting a lawyer and u can definatly get out of this with 2 points no doubt in my mind....by any chance this happen in tinton falls?

No, I lucked out. Went to school with a lot of troopers. I just got a seatbelt ticket. Don't hate me! It was down south by me. So, I am OK, but the insurance is what would hurt the most. I'm probably older than most on this site. When I was younger, I wouldn't have minded as much, but now that I am a little more $ conscious, I would hate it. Plus the wife was with me, and she was pissed for an hour or so.

I just got the car and it was my first real opening up and BAM! When I had my GSXR years a goa, that was super slow for me. Funny how htings work out.

That's what a friend said to me, they could have arrested me. Glad I got a cool young Trooper! I would have been tougher on myself.

Reminded me of my co-worker, got a ticket driving his G35C, 145 MPH in a 65 MPH. He went to jail and lost his license. He wanted to see how fast it would go at 2 am and BAM got nailed. He said he wanted to try it just once! He learned a hard lesson.

Yeah, sucks. Now I'm all paranoid. I'm smart enough to do it where there are no other people around, except for the Trooper. Don't want to kill someone else just to see how quick my car is. I told my wife I will be mellow for at least 2 weeks. But with the insurance deal, I may be 0-60 fun instead.

This is why you go speed in another state so you just pay a fine and get no points.

I don’t think so. BTW which states would that be? My last trip to Montreal get me 2 points from NY + attorney fee + ticket fine. Perhaps you meant another country?

Not really. Almost all states have reciprocity around here. So that thought process won't work, otherwise I'd be in Delaware or PA all the time!!

You still get points, but not the points of the infraction. All out of state speeding tickets come over as 2 points when they're reported. Trust me, I know from experience!

Well according to the NYS DMV website, as long as you pay the fines, you do not receive points:

"Out-of-state traffic violations: Except for Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS driver record if you commit an out-of-state traffic violation. Points can appear on your NYS driver record if you commit a traffic violation in Ontario or Quebec."
