Default "Official" CT Meet Thread

Alright CT people! I'm trying to gather some ideas for our own regional meet sometime in the early summer, possibly May/June. I know there are plenty of CT Z's out there, although some aren't too vocal here. Of course, any brothers and sisters from the surrounding states would be welcome. If any of the established Z organizations (Bob Sharp, etc) already have a meet planned, great, put it here. By the way, the Bob Sharp meet in the fall is excellent.

I personally think a meet by a beach would be nice. Hammonasset State Park in Madison ~30 min east of New Haven has a great beach and two huge parking lots. I like meets where only car people go, but I also think that a more public spectacle would be fun too. Chick's (seafood restaurant) in West Haven is adjacent to the beach and has a large lot also. Just as an aside, vics350 and I will be making fairly regular trips to the Berlin Turnpike in Newington this summer. There's a fairly good informal gathering at a Dunkin Donuts there. Not too glitzy, but generally cool people.

I'd also like to get a formal list of local residents together. If you're from CT, or not, but would like to be involved, add your name and location to this thread. Again, any and all ideas are welcome.

Andrew - Hamden

Oh, and no, I'm not a member of ZCCNE...yet

I forgot to post my idea.

Meet at Olympia Diner in Newington (Berlin Turnpike) for lunch. This is a nostalgic diner and is in a car enthusiast location. Across from the Diner is a huge parking lot which has a Toys-R-Us and a Caldor (which closed a few years ago). There is a huge empty lot there because of the Caldor and we could go there after eating and enjoy the cars. We can do a photo shoot (I know Andrew has a great camera he could take pictures with). I am sure many people will come in just to drool over the cars and this should not be a problem because there is tons of parking available.

We can either go for a cruise afterwards or just hang out there for a while. In the summer, there is a place down the street from this lot which has a cruise night every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month which is open to everyone. We could go there if we want to see other types of cars or we can just go on a cruise on our own. Also, every Saturday night people gather at the Dunkin Donuts just across from the Toys-R-Us parking lot. If anyone wants to stay for this they are welcome (I know I will). In the summer this generates tons of cars. Cars normally start coming in around 8:00 PM. Andrew and I have been there in October and witnessed some good turnouts and in the summer this place is hopping.

Well, just my thoughts. Comments are appreciated.

There are an amazing number of cops there. I'm always very very careful while driving around. The cruise control is set at the speed limit and I don't think it's the best environment for breaking the speed limit.

It's a nice place to hang out, but I'm surprised by the number of people who think of it as a raceway. Newington must make a fortune from the tickets.

hey, hey!

You can count me in. Got my Redline Enthusiast on 3.1.03, but I am down. I grew up in East Haven, and I have seen a couple gatherings over at Chic's. The beach would be nice!! I am living up in West Hartford are now.

Good to hear from you. Join us for the meet in NH on 4/27. We will be coordinating a caravan in CT to go up there. We can get together there and discuss plans for future CT meets.

Let us know in the NH thread if you can make it to the meet.

Sounds great. I am still anticipating delivery of my PPW track in April so May or June would work for me. Plus they should have all the sand off the roads by then.

Thanks vics350. I do have some prior history on the Berlin tnpk. I used to "run" my '57 chevy belaire coupe (327/365HP) there in the 70s. It will be fun cruising with my new toy.

Where in CT do you live? Andrew (rouxeny) and I are planning to meet at the Dunkin Donuts in Newington this Saturday night(weather permitting). Feel free to come by if it's not too far away for you.

What time are you two going to be there? I live in South Windsor and it's about a 30 minute ride (15 in a Z) for me. My dealer called with my VIN. He said the car has shipped so I should see it in 3 to 4 weeks. The dealer does clear bra installations now for $325. I will be looking over their work before I commit. I'll let you guys know how they look.

I'm going to try and make it if it isn't raining. I'll be the guy without a Z (for now).

I have a question about vin #s. My number starts out with JN1A234. I think the 2 should be a Z. I asked the dealer to research and I haven't heard back yet. Does that sound right?

I'm not sure about the VIN #. I'd have to dig out my paperwork to see what the VIN number was on my car. Maybe Andrew knows.

If you can make it Saturday it would be great just to hang out. Hopefully the weather will hold up. Your car will be here soon enough and we'll get to enjoy another Z in our gettogethers. Can't wait to see a white track in person. In pictures it looks awesome and as everyone says, pictures do not do this car justice.
