opinion on fixing rims
Hey guys,
I need some help about my rims. I have a set of j8 pro's that have pretty bad curb rash on them. They also have stains and light scratches on the lips. I can never get the lip to look like polished or anything, it looks dull. there is a huge stain on one.
So I was contemplating weather to just buy new rims, but I love these rims so much eventhow they are so hard to clean. I feel like my efforts of cleaning them everyday is a waste b/c of the way they look still. So instead of buying a set of volks like everyone els has I want to spend the money on fixing the rims.
They are 2 piece rims, is there anyway to take it apart and get new hubs on them? or is there a professional store near the tri-state area that could help me fix them and make them look like new?
I researched and found that I could sand the curb rashed and smooth them down, but then I will need to repaint them since they will be still mismatched. So another theory I hade was to just powdercoat the lip part, but that requires taking the wheel apart and I dont know if that is duable.
please make suggestions. if not Im going to probly endup selling the rims with tires for around $1500 and buying a set of volks for $3k.

See what the repair will cost first. I guy I work with used this place in Wilmington:

I've looked into repairing rims and there are some very good shops that specialize in reconditioning rims. They can refinish them and make them look better than when they were brand new. They can also take out bends and all that good stuff. An example of such a place:

They're local to me but I hear they do awesome work on wheels. Perhaps you can have them shipped and they'll fix your rims.

I had my lips stripped, repolished, and powdercoated clear at wheel collision center in bath PA. stripping the RMC coat off the volk challenges and then re-clearing them with a clear powdercoat made them look slightly dull. after i had them done, i showed friends of mine and they all agreed that it looked okay, but it wasnt up to my standards for the car. i eventually sold the rims and bought a new set. if i had a choice to do it all over, i probably would have had the lips chromed. the clear powdercoat not only dulls the polish job, it brings out all the imperfections in the lips.
