I don't think you will find a loft anywhere in Center City for less than $1000. I live in an old mill building in East Falls which is a few miles closer to the city than Manayunk. I ride Septa to work every day, but it is only about 8 miles to CC. Between the rent in CC and the extra for parking it made more sense for me to stay outside of the city.

update:

I found so many apartments in my price range, it was hard to choose, but I did.

I just put a deposit down on a 1 bedroom w/ loft (including all utilities but cooking gas) on 21st and Walnut. for under 900 bucks.

2 blocks from work FTW!

Wow congrats on that find. I was paying $1000 in philly suburbs (about 40 minutes out) for a one bedroom with only water/sewage included. Do you get a parking space or is it street parking first come first serve? Awesome that you can walk to work, I wish I could do that!

no parking (if you know the area)... and I don't street park the Z I have a monthly lot, but I might go leave my car at my parents and just take a train out when I need it. lots are like 150-200/mo so it's an unneccesary luxury, but nice to have the car around.

Makes me laugh when I see some of these prices for a 1 bedroom in Philly. I'm about 45 min out in the suburbs of Reading. $1000 a month can get you a nice 2 or 3 bedroom with plenty of room and probably a parking lot with (average) utilities paid.

Funny thing is, after I go back to college for my Bachelors, I'll end up moving to Philly or another big city so I can make better money. Money is decent around here... but not like the city.

you can find that in Philadelphia too, you just have to go to South Philly or University City/West philly, which can still be within walking distance to CC. and easier/free parking.

anywhere in the suburbs, it's almost guaranteed that you get a parking lot. Until you are paying almost 2k or more for a 1 bedroom, you won't find a parking spot attached to a place in CC

Nice. At times I think it would be nice to live in center city, and live for a few years just going out to eat and enjoying the city. A couple weekends ago we went downtown and ended up in Rittenhouse Square around 7:00 at night, perfectly clear night, cool air, lots of people out just enjoying themselves. That was one of those moments when I felt like selling my place in the suburbs and finding a new job in the city.

Congrats on the move in, man. Jersey is still the ****, Philly should be a part of it.

A few buddies of mine live down around there, one of them just moved out of center city. It's got a decent scene, I'm down there a few times a month. It's a chill place to live, just sucks for your Z.

Have fun, maybe I'll see you around dude.

I live 1 block from Rittenhouse Square, it is so nice to walk through the park and go to dinner. not having to drive anywhere is such a different experience. also, I work 2 blocks away so... 4 minute commute

But you deal with things such as: old buildings, so the bathroom is small, some things aren't straight, lol. noise from the street, I have three windows facing 21st so it can be loud if the windows are open and a firetruck goes by.
