Anybody been to Maine?
I'm thinking about spending a week of vacation driving up to Maine. I've never been there before and I'm not sure what's posessed me to go, but I have a week of vacation and no other plans. I've heard a little about Acadia National Park, it's supposed to be the best Park in the East Coast, which isn't really saying much, but it's pretty scenic with some outdoorsy things to do. Sounds like a nice place to camp and take some pictures.
This is my last year here in the North East, I figure I gotta do some local stuff while I'm out here.
I realize this is a little off topic, but any suggestions?

Acadia is incredibly beautiful, and, when I was there many years ago, incredibly inexpensive.
There are alot of good day hikes, including the Bubble Hills, and if you don't feel like camping, you can always stay at a bed and breakfast in adjacent Bar Harbor, for practically nothing.

Andrew, you will not be disappointed with Acadia. I have gone across the country and visted quite a few National Parks (Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Big Ben, etc) and Acadia holds it's own. Here's a summary by LL Beans on Acadia in case you haven't seen it. Speaking of Beans, you might as well stop there on your way up. Although Freeport is highly commercialized now, Beans is still a fun store to go in and visit. They also have an outlet store just down the street that can be pretty decent too. Plus you can pick up a 1 Year National Park Pass for $50.
Also let me know when you are coming up. There's been talk of a MA Meet sometime in September or so (very early stage right now). Maybe you could make that at the same time.

Cool. There are two campgrounds there, both seem about the same. You can also stay on Isle au Haut, but that's a little TOO close to nature for me. I'm probably leaving for Cape Cod (never been there either) on Sunday 9/1 and then to Maine sometime Monday or Tuesday. I'll be on vacation for that whole week.
