To buy or not to buy... That is the Question.
doooo it... 3 years ago i was gonna buy a 93 gt but coudnt justify throwing the money away on gas especially when the price/gal was shooting up... plus the Z is suuuch a better car in too many ways... but to answer the winter question it is horrible in the snow. get a beater or some real good winter tires
if you looking for a fuel efficient car, the Z is not the way to go, 30 mpg? yea if your gonna do 55 on the freeway and never go above 2500 rpm, realisticly if your going from a slow *** v6 mustang to a decently fast Z....im guessing you might be on the pedal more then you think, thus taking gas milage down, i do about 80 on average on the freeway and get about 25-20 mpg when i stay steady with a 6MT.... so i dunno i guess you gotta way out what is more important to you
It depends how you want to use it. If you want the Z as a car that you will only drive on weekends and enjoy though only putting less than say 5 or 6 thousand miles a year on, then go get one, but as others have said, I'd have a beater on the side.
If you are going to use it for daily driving all year round, then I'd maybe look in a different direction seeing as how we are in the North East and get heavy winters.
I would almost suggest buying the beater first, thats what I did and it worked out brilliantly for me. If you can pay for and justify the need for two cars then thats the path I would take.
But to answer your main question, does the car handle in the winter? Only with a good set of winter tires, and even then...its tricky.
Hope this helps. Good Luck

I daily drive my Z back and forth to work about 60 miles round trip. I burn through at least a tank of gas a week.
Forget it in the winter. Even with snow tires, decent amount of snow and ice will cripple you. If I were going to school and I need a commuter car, I would buy a new civic. The Z is a true sports car. It is fast, guzzles gas, is built for the summer, and should be a weekend driver.

My z is a daily driver and I burn through atleast a tank of gas in a week too.
I've gone through 2 winters with this car w/ blizzaks and i've been able to get by.
In heavy snowfall, guaranteed you'll get stuck, but in light snow you can drive the Z as long as you have good winter tires on. I have my land rover for the heavy snow days.
My advice, the Z can be your daily as long as you have a car to borrow in heavy snowfall. (someone in the family?)
You should get a wrx

z is not a winter car, if u are looking to get a z look to get about 26-27 highway mpg and get a beater for winter..yes it can be driven in winter, but come on its not for that..
Lately, ive been gettin 15mpg but thats because my o2 sensors are gone and i have a heavy foot. As for winter, my car is like a plow, im not gonna make it nowhere so i would know how it handles
I drive mine year round. In the winter I have a set of 17" wheels with bridgestone blizzak LM22's that get the job done in minimal snow as long as you are careful. It is painful though to see the car get beat up with all the salt and road cinders and crap. If I could do it over again I would have saved up enough money for Z+beater+insurance on both at the same time, but now that the Z is all beat up I might just put the money into a re-paint on the Z when I buy my daily driver (some day).
