Default NJ inspection sticker question

Say you buy a 09 model year car used from a dealer. the car does not have an inspection sticker on it. When the dealer registers the car and i go pick up the plates and registration, Do I get a permanent inspection sticker? or will it be a temp sticker that says I have to get car inspected within x number of days?

the dealer should provide you with a valid nj inspection sticker good for 5 yrs from the model year car. Example your 09 should be valid till 2014.

Actually Just found it. you get a form SS-19 upon registration. You take that form to an inspectiong location and go to the re-inspection line to get the decal. so I do have to visit an inspection station after all.

Yep, 5 years is only for new cars.
