I'm moving to boston and I heard about the high car theft rate. Should I be worried? I'm thinking about installing the Pioneer NAV/DVD/MP3 system ($2000+) in my G35 Coupe. I heard there's a lot of stereo stealing/car stripping and I'm going to be parking on public streets a lot. (Mostly cambridge area, but also boston)

 

There is a fair bit of theft around the city. Make sure everything is out of your car when you park, if possible. My friends Maxima was broken into for his CD's

If you are parking on the street, be aware. Your bumpers will be put to the test. I watch cars get hit every day by drivers attempting to park. I will never park my Z on the streets, not out of fear of theft, out of fear of being hit. Parking is a real problem however, search for a garage near you if possible.

well nyc theft is really all about where you live in nyc and where you decide to park. manhattan has relatively little theft (to my knowledge anyway); it's some of the outer boroughs that get it more. but even then, there aren't that many dash & grab robberies where people break in for a book of cds or a stereo

I've never heard of Boston being the car stereo break-in capital of the world. Just like Anytown, USA, just get a removable face plate and "hide" your valuables in your trunk.
