I am somewhat familiar with the Cape Cod area.. I actually took a ride all the way down to the tip backroads the day after I picked up my car last January. There are lots and lots of shore area with public parking (Plymoth beach comes to mind) and lots of nice cruise routes.

You can find some pics of Plymoth beach and a few others from the Cape that I took on my site from when I took the trip down, you can see what the area looks like and the lot I was in, but remember, all those pics were taking in like 10 degree weather..

I'm in too! Here's some suggestions if you want the "Cape":

Location If it's "early" enough (ie before the summer rush), we can probably grab enough spaces along the "Scenic Overview" overlooking the canal in Buzzards Bay/Borne as it's a pretty big parking lot. I'll try to take a picture of it in the next couple of days.

Food I may have a connection for getting lobsters "off the boat" if I have enough notice and the price will be less than retail. I'm pretty sure they have grills at the canal also, but if not I have a big ol' portable pot that can hold about 20+ lobsters and clams. It also comes with the stand, propane tank, etc so we would be all set if there aren't any grills.

Cruise Not really sure on that one, but driving along the coast through Onset, Mattapoisett, Marion (lighthouse on the water), etc "along" Route 6. Depending on how far everyone is willing to travel, this could be extended to South Dartmouth and end up at Horsenecks Beach in Westport that should be great for photos. I'm still getting suggestions from people that live in that area, but I guess there's some "twisties" is South Dartmouth to Westport that is supposed to be fun as well. Just a suggestion. Again the earlier in the season the better.

Date I'm open. Probably won't get my car back until the end of March, but maybe first weeks of April as the Atco weekend is at the end of April (25th).

I'd go for the Cape. My mouth is watering already for a nice lobster meal. Easter is April 11th. May would be better for me since I am in Aruba in mid April. Once memorial day comes around everything gets busy.

Deb, do you think you can plan it for a Saturday?

Saturdays would be my preference too....Z-car meets are much more entertaining when you don't have to worry about work the next day.

As for the date, I'm thinking that early to mid-may might be a good time. It would be before the Memorial Day rush hits, and you increase the chances of getting good weather. Those ocean breezes can still blow pretty cold in April if you get a bad weather day.

Just my 2 cents...I'm willing to consider just about any weekend once the weather gets nice again.

Roger, sounds like a plan! If you can get some pics of the area that'd be great. In the meantime, my sister has a friend that lives down the Cape and is supposed to be sending me a list of various places that have a large lot. If I see anything of interest I'll let you guys know.

I'm thinking MAY 8TH (Saturday) as a date

Don't mind doing the Ogunquit meet/cruise/outlet routine once again.

Great timing!

I finally had a chance to take some pictures of the Cape Cod canal parking lot. It looks "dark and gloomey" but try to imagine it with blue water in the canal and the sun out...

The lot looks like it holds about 200 cars so a big group shouldn't be a problem. There are a lot of picnic tables and I believe they take the grills in during the winter. The second set of pictures were taken from across the street and should allow pictures with the canal in the background. In addition, I'm pretty sure that the "scenic overview" at Horsenecks Beach in Westport (the proposed endpoint of the cruise) will allow pictures with the ocean in the background.

This is just a suggested location. I like it because it has a big parking lot, it's convenient to Routes 93 and 495 and they have have some grills and a place to eat. In addition, my brother has a house a couple of miles away and he could transport all of the crap for the clambake. An alternative plan would be to start at Horsenecks Beach and then cruise over to the canal and have the clambake after. The distance between the two is ~45 miles and would take ~ 90 minutes.

Good job Roger! Now if you can only get your car back. I heard a rumor that it is performing in the half time show at the SuperBowl this weekend.

The Scusset beach parking lot down the road might work also. But I like this location. Spent a lot of time around the canal area when I was a kid. Quintels fried clams used to be right down the road too.

I'm diggin' the location! Let's go for it! Can you put together some directions, info, etc. and email (or PM) them to me, that way I can put together a formal post about the meet so the details won't get lost at the tail end of this thread? THANKX!!

Since you know the area, can we count on you to "lead the pack" for the cruise? I think the area will look great once that sun is shining again!!

I'm thinking meet, eat and cruise. Anyone else??

We're getting there! Thanks for getting that together, Roger!

Wow...this sure came together in a hurry. Great idea on the venue! If there's anything I might be able to do to help out the other MA folks in the organization, I'd be glad to pitch in...just shoot me an e-mail or PM. I don't know the area all that well, but a cruise along the seaside is always good in my mind.
