Street tires... damn... how do people drive on those things? Tommorrow's gonna be pretty interesting. A couple of 350Z's on R-compound on a wide open course will make for some impressive times.
Care to rub it in some more? Damn!
Next year ok? Next year I'll have some R-compound...

Well, my best time was a 44.9. I think I was underinflated a bit, so I'll try to pump up the volume next time. Need to remember to keep from sliding around as much - it really does make a difference.

44.01. No excuses here, it just wasn't my day. I was hoping to keep up w/ the STi's, but they could really laydown the power on that straightaway after the sharp left-right combo. The results should be out on Monday.

DrVolkl, what were your times?

So who is the provisional king Z(or G)? Atleast until we get to do the true RWYB competition.

Rahtok time +1 sec
me +1.6 sec

My best time of the day was my last run, 45.439 or something like that.... I was really happy with that, since it put me right up there with the street tire guys.

Who has the official time sheet?

Of course we all know, my Z is putting down the most power! :P (ducks from any TT's lurking out there)

Just a quick question, what is needed to do autoXing ... I am guessing that a helmet is needed right ...

Also, are the courses always different and so everyone needs to learn them on the first few laps .... I'm a dunce, fill me in ...

Just wondering how the G would fair ...

You need to show up...that's about it.

As long as you're set up as a guest, you're all set. BEAC has loaner helmets.. (which BTW, are getting nasty now that it's summer...glad I ordered one of my own last week).

We'll talk you thru everything else...there are plenty of experienced people there willing to help you out...walk the course, ride with you, drive your car to show you the line, etc etc.

Triple8 has a G and I think he's hooked...

me: 44.0 (+ 1.6) = 45.61
Rahtok: 44.9 (+ 1.0) = 45.9
DrVolkl: 45.4
Triple8Sol: 49.1
Cryptic: TBD

Looks like the provisional King of the NW Z's is DrVolkl. Congrats, good times there.

Did all you guys let Glen drive your car? If so, amazing isn't it? The guy adds 210 lbs to your car, has never driven your setup before, and in 1 or 2 runs he can get 2+ seconds faster than you.

There is no "offical" time sheet. Sometimes after practice we type up the results and make 'em avalible to BEAC members for a week or 2 for reference. There is a possiblity that results could contain an error or 2, it's just practice so there's no big emphasis placed on accuracy.

For offical stuff, you gotta go to an compete in the local sanctioned autoX competitions.

Yes, Glen is a pretty amazing driver, but don't forget that his name is in the back of the Solo II rulebook as an SCCA Solo II National Champion. You don't get those by just showing up a few times, you need talent, practice, a lot of work, and some luck.

Good to meet you too Triple8Sol. It's always good to put a face to the name. Glad you liked it.

Moving on to another topic: He's BACK! After being on the D.L. for over a month BA Cutler has made his return to autoX in a spectacular fashion. Remember the STi that ran at Saturday's practice? BA Cutler was able to beat him at the WWSCC event on Sunday. I came in 3rd, but it was a pretty good battle in our class, if only between BA Cutler and the STi. The whole thing is even better when you hear about the story before his race.

It took everything I could muster up to make that event, my first since 5/15. Had a wheel stud problem that proved to be fairly nerve racking. The car was back together at 9:30a.m., got the car on the road at 10:30, drove the 68 miles (I need more downforce on my trailer) to made it just in time to make there before registration closed, drivesolo helped me get the wheels changed and set-up for tech, ran through tech, ran to Taco Bell, ate the Combo #1 while walking the course, ran in Group 1... 1st run was sacrificed to navigation, 2nd run; pulled off one good run (margin of victory was only .03), pulled a stomach muscle while in the middle of my 3rd run, kind of gun shy on the 4th run.

Thanks drivesolo for the assistance, couldn't have done it without your help.

That's awesome!!! What a great story.

While working on station 5 in the morning practice run I had to listen to the guy in the white Type R tell me how 350's aren't competative in their class and blah blah. I was kinda getting depressed. So I feel a lot better now.
I'll post the pics in a few.

BTW- I don't really feel like I deserve any kind of "title" when I had the slowest time. Just wait until I get some R-compound...

I have another question, well two actually, what does the tech phase entail, do they go over your car to check that everything is attached and your car is safe, and also, what zooming around all of those cones, how obvious is the line?? is it not confusing at all??

I wouldn't say the Z is not competitive in its class, but it's not a class leader like the S2000 used to be. If we could just get some negative chamber out of the front end, the Z would be fairly lethal.

But given the modern hardware, it's between the Z and the RX8. The biggest competition comes from the old hardware: MR2 Turbos and the Porsche 968. I'm pulling for Carter Thompson to come through in his Z this year at Nationals.

I've accepted the fact that the Z is not the class leader in autoX which makes it all the more sweeter anytime any Z takes home first over an S2000 or STi which are ranked one class higher than the 350Z's. The Z was not intended to run autoX, it really shines on a road course. Rahtok, can you verify?

Don't go off of what Scott and his buddy (black and white integras) say. Remember up until a few weeks ago Scott was under the impression that his Integra on Azenis could take on my Z on Tech R's. (Oh Scott.... what was he thinking? -see June results for details) I'm sure they're just repeating what they've heard w/in earshot of someone that cared since it was a situation where enough Z's (and G's) were around making some people feel uncomfortable. Had a lot of RX-8's been there, the same thing would have been said about them. The competative nature is something tough to suppress even during practice days.

I didn't get my Z to autoX it. It just happens to be a really fun car to do it in.

Well, even the S2000 when it was first introduced wasn't the class overdog it turned out to be.

It was just a very fun car to drive that had a lot of people (especially good drivers) driving it. Once one of the good drivers found the "magic setup" and shared it was when people started getting S2Ks in droves.

Now the class is "divided" on the new hardware between the Mazda camp (with the additional incentive of contingency money) and 350Zs. There's some course dependencies there as well, since the Mazda is supposed to have the advantage in handling while the Z is supposed to have the advantage in power.
