Warranty on trans is 5 year or 60K miles. It's covered

It's a common problem in the Z. Go take it in right away. If you need to (which you shouldn't), pull up the TSB info by doing a search on this sight.

I think Rahtok had to replace his, but I can't remember.

+1 The third gear grind is a problem that some 350Z owners have experienced. Take it in to your dealership and they should take care of you.

Just out of curiosity how many miles do you have on your car?

Default Tranny problem

Yeah, mine had the same problem at about 28k as well. Shifting into 3rd suddenly stopped working. Doubleclutching worked... sorta.

When I took it into Auburn nissan, they said I had been resting my hand on the shifter and had broken it (!?!). At any rate, they rebuilt it, but 6th was funky too. (BTW, Auburn Nissan service has really fallen off the cart. Don't use'em.) I ended up following my original service manager from Auburn to his new location in Bellevue. Dave just had his tech take a look at it and they swapped it wholesale -- it's been a beauty since. Take it into Dave Sasslin at Bellevue Nissan, tell him you've got the third gear grind problem, and tell him that Brian sent you. He knows me (on sight and by name :P, but not necessarily in a bad way) and ask them to replace the tranny.

BTW, Nissan modified the tranny like 7 times in the first 12 to 18 months of production. They knew there was a tolerance problem.

I, also, have had almost every TSB done to my car. You can commiserate with me if you like, but you're prying the car out of my cold, dead hands!

Take it to Advantage Nissan in Bremerton. Ask for Brad Bakken. Tell him Nilo sent you.

I can't find a dealer than can duplicate my problem. My grinds in third every now and then but it's getting more frequent.
