Actually red light cameras shoot the rear plate in most cases. The font shot if for driver ID, rear is for the plate ID.
Having recieved a red light ticket in Arizona (where no front plates are required) and having a couple friends in law enforcment I am pretty sure that the washington system is the same.

Actually its front the rear and front over her near UW. There are cameras placed all along 45th St from campus to I-5 exit. They are placed at cross streets Brooklyn, 11th, and Roosevelt. They have speed sensors that take photos of your rear and front when you go too fast and in the intersection for over 2 seconds after red.
Out of all the tickets that I hate most are the ones for people who stop at that loop round in front of the flag pole near Kane and Odeegard. Come on no unload and load zone? seriously that ring is HUGE and people take a sec to do it. But then again you would see an *** load of cars stopping there. There is a small stretched of unload/load just right of the loops but you have to swing around and park on the opposite side of the road.
Sigh....get that ticket checked out buddy. Im sure he wrote way too much.
