Default anyone got a cheap beater or bike

I'm finding it difficult to maintain even a 15mpg on my car which is at times, disheartening to my wallet. I thought this car was gonna get like 20 mpg but BULLSH*T. who lied...maybe on the highway 22 but nissan really lied there. newho im looking for a cheap bike or car that I can just beat on. Also if you sell me a bike, I'll pay ya more if you teach me the basics of how to ride one since I have no clue but they do get a lot more mpg. I thought about a bike or scooter but realized either I'm not going to be all sweaty to work or sound like a loud *** bumble bee and look like tart. Help me out!

If you get a bike I'd really make sure you don't get anything bigger than 500cc to start on

and also, bikes need a lot more maintenance i believe. like oil changes every 500 miles or something like that.

Could be wrong, but thats what my friend told me who owns a bike.

food for thought

I know of someone who's selling a Honda VTR250 for cheap, it'd be a good starter bike for you

Yeah, bikes are a lot of maintenance. And take it from a former rider who lost 3 friends in a two week period on bikes because of other drivers (they were not at fault), you do not want a bike as a daily driver. Bikes are fun but are to be on a cruise. You do not want to have to be somewhere, that is when you will speed, drive more recklessly and are much more likely to get into an accident. They are strictly weekend toys, not daily drivers.

I have a 96 240 SX I could sell you, it gets pretty good mileage, like 25 mpg.

I think it does better than my old 4 banger jetta.

You must be really stomping on your car to only get 15mpg consistently. I usually get 22-24mpg driving in a variety of situations. I'm not redlining every gear on every shift either though.

I've been getting 14 mpg since I bought my car in city traffic. On the highway it gets better. I've got a scan gauge in my daily driver that I ought to put in the Z to see why the millage is so stupid low.

damn, and i thought i was hard on the loud pedal getting 19-20 on mine, thats pretty much all city driving save a mile long strip on the highway to work and back

if ur only getting 15mpg you either shift way to late (3.5k or later for normal driving) or there is something wrong with your car

interesting we may need to chat ^^

Dude but as for my MPG, I drive city all the time, the neighborhood I'm in stop and go every block. I try and shift around 2.6k to 2.8k. I don't know where you guys drive but if you stop and go every block or 2 I'm pretty sure about 99% you will get crappy mpg like me. I've been trying to improve it but no avail. I do get like 24-26 or so on the highway and my car is a 2007 enthusiast so its not old or anything. I hate premium!

Dunno bikes kind of scare me and excite me too. I think id be nice to own one but someone just put up a story saying how his father got clipped and died....I'm too young for that...

I even reset the gauge and was like hmm 15.6 isnt bad but now its around 14.8....its like WTF

I dunno...I don't think bikes require that much maintenance? You just need to check your tire pressures and lube the chain regularly. Of course change the oil more often than a car, but not too bad. Alot less parts than a car, tires and tuneups are way cheaper too!

I seem to avg 16-22mpg depending on how much hwy driving is in the mix, and how much I'm boosting. I commute on the bike every day it's sunny and rain-free. Can't argue w/40mpg!

I don't even know what I get city versus highway. My gas mileage reader usually says 20-21 mpg and I'm fine with that.

If you're looking for a good, fuel efficient beater that won't detract from the enjoyment of RWD, a S13 is a very good option IMO. Maybe 'bout 26 mpg on average around here, but it's lighter than an S14 (which is already 400 lbs lighter than the Z) so it'll be much more fuel efficient when going up the hills around here.
