I don't like having the front plate either, but I'm afraid being stopped for that might lead to other things.

If a cop gets behind me and decides to pull me over for exhaust, I'll just pull out the EPA paperwork to baffle him.
When the summer's over, and the weather turns crappy again, the car's goin' down for winter projects, and I'm movin' to Atlanta in April. No worries.
I'm definitely not a big fan of a lot of the local cops. Some are very cool, but most (at least the ones you get pulled over by) seldom are. I mean seriously, did they become police officers to check for muffler infractions? Is the lack of a front license plate really that much of a risk for the safety of society? The side of the car says "To Serve and Protect" not "Pursue and Harass".
I understand that not having a front plate gives them a legitimate reason to pull you over if they want to check and see if you're drunk or if you have warrants or something. But why do they have to be jerks about it?

My point still stands even concerning the older R-series Skylines.
The onyl reason why some of the Skylines are legal in the U.S. is because of the MASSIVE detuning they had to go through in order to be CARB compliant. I also know that they had to crash a bunch of the Skylines in government tests just so that they could be officialyl approved by the Department of Trans.
You ever wonder why a Skyline that you could get in Japan for $30k gets sold for $90k used???? I just stated the reasons above.
Lastly, I lived only 3 minutes away from the leading and probably only company that got the Skyline imported legally, MotoRex. I visited there shop a few times and saw about 4 Skylines there. I was hoping they could do my motor swap on my Snetra but they were incredibly pricey. Last I know, the government forced the company to shut down and the President of MotoRex is now under prosecution or legal trouble. Another thing I read is the possibility of all detuned and street legal Skylines to have their registrations rescinded as a result of MotoRex's collapse.
I am not sure if this has gone though already but if it has, there will be no such thing as a street legal Skyline.

I see. Thought you had a Z but none-the-less, read my above post. Maybe you can shed light on it. Was your GTR imported by MotoRex?

They should put "To Punish and Enslave" on the sides like on Barracade!.
I found out that the tickets that Highway Patrol gives out pays directly for training and most of the equipment that the officers use int he field so there is extra inncentive for CHP to give tickets and it shows. Typically, CHP pull cars over for EVERYTHING and they rarely let you go!

Motorex was in the process of getting investigated, and shut down by the DOT. G&K was the company that was doing the EPA conversion work for Motorex. Plus, I had heard enough horror stories of Motorex messin' people over to steer me away from them. The whole Motorex story would make for a great cult documentary.
Motorex was basically shut down for attempting to legalize all 3 models of Skylines (R32, R33, R34) under just one model's, (R33) crash test data. 32's and 34's were never crash tested. The DOT recinded the original petition, and changed it to only '96-98 Skylines to be eligible for importation. However, there is no official OBD2 system for Skylines, so it is in essence illegal to import Skylines now. Mine, and all the other cars in limbo at the time were grandfathered and waived.
My car is technically 49 state legal, because I chose not to pay for the additional CARB certification, being that I don't plan on living in Cali again.
Incidentally, I rode all the way from Santa Ana, CA to Washington state with a Japanese plate with no problems. Go figure!!

Dude, yeah. I highly suggest you carry ALL of your paper work with you even if its big enough to fill-up a suitcase and lastly, just put your plate on. It won't make that much of a difference unless you find yourself making a wrong turn and end-up in a JGTC race!!!

I did not know that!

While we're on the subject of California, did you know that their Mega Millions lottery is currently at $105 million, which means you could buy between 1750 - 2625 Hakosuka GTR's?
