btw. buy some new tires. Some falken 452's, goodyear f1's, ps2's... and you'll be fine for anything but ice. Plus, you do know that once it comes to ice and hydroplaning... the type of vehicle doesn't really matter.

LOL, running those tires in the snow is asking for a death wish, just ask some of the guys around here who tried to venture out with summer tires on

Oregon gets rain. In the snow/ice, a beater with Nokian tires would be ideal.

I couldn't get my G out of my condo complex when it snowed & I was on FK-452's. I believe my car was parked for over a week without being moved lol until the snow melted.

so? they're not meant for snow, and neither is a RWD, 300hp car.

Yup. I got stuck in an inch of slush on my KDW2's. Ended up throwing it in reverse and driving backwards like a FWD.

Because in a repeat thread he talked about driving it in the rain, and that Oregon only gets a couple weeks of snow.

Are you satisfied?

Not yet?

Here's the link

https://my350z.com/forum/other-vehicles/296991-z-guys-that-made-the-trade-to-sti-evo-any-regrets-2.html

Still not satisfied?

Here's his post.

"I live in Oregon on a huge like triple big hill. It rains all the time, ALL THE TIME. But the big problem is in the winter that it gets in the mid 30's quite often, and it has snowed for a week or 2 every winter the past couple of years. On my hill it is super icey.

The Z isnt very practical in this situation, now I LOVE MY Z. It's not that I am trading it away for better or different performance or track days or anything. I am thinking of trading the Z away because of the practical issues. Now I can get through the winter w/o trading it, it would just take a bit more of an effort on finding rides or borrowing a car for the winter."

Satisfied yet?

Because I believe we came to the conclusion that buying a beater with winter tires, and keeping the Z with better rain tires will accomplish everything the OP wishes.

Any more?

Yeah but if he thinks the EVO or STi is more fun to drive, more power to him.

but we're not talking about 'fun to drive' here... talking about whether the Z is suitable for driving in snowy/icy hills... which IMHO is realliy not... getting a FWD beater with narrow tires is the way to go

awd beater with skinny tires>>>fwd beater with skinny tires. A good used subaru would probably be one of the best investments you made

You're worried about insurance??? just stop driving the Z for a couple months and leave it uninsured/parked for the winter while you drive your beater subaru. Makes a LOT more sense than buying an evo that would STILL suck in the snow. Yes it sucks having your rear end slide off the road but having both ends slide off the road is not much of an improvement.

How was anybody ganging up on me? I thought there was quite a lot of good advice. I have been very busy lately... Only time I’m really getting a chance to get on is while I'm at work =)

I do think a used subby would be good. I will probably be doing that. At no point did the STI/EVO have anything to do w/ power or fun. I get plenty of pleasure, fun and power out of the Z.

Because I believe we came to the conclusion that buying a beater with winter tires, and keeping the Z with better rain tires will accomplish everything the OP wishes.
Tubbs got a bullseye this time =) that is exactly what I was attempting to accomplish. I just dont want to get the Z stuck at the bottom of my hill with me having to back it up all the way up the hill sliding everywhere!

Get a vette. man this car handles so well in the snow... with VERY light snow it only took me 30 mins and 5 ppl to move it into the garage haha(u better know im joking)

anyway, ive def concidered an STI/evo for my winter car. Check into an S4 tho mani, i had 1 and if i were to go back to an AWD platform... id def go with the V8 S4 again.

I've considered a vette. Your's is amazing btw.

The S4's are AWESOME. But I dont know if I want to do the whole V8 thing again :/ I have definitely considered it though.

thanks. Im actually not a big fan of vettes, but i do like my own.

The S4 got great gas milage when i had it. The V8 was AMAZING out of the hole...

Its a more expensive car but IMO its worth every penny. GL with whatever you decide to get. But dont post on here and say "i got a new X" (w/o pics) you BETTER post up a pic of the new ride...
