Not when it is for the sake of real public safety. The problem is that so many speed limits are set artificially low that they are no longer trusted by the general public.

(from one of my other posts)

"The problem is that so many government agencies have cried "wolf" too many times. There is a stretch of road in Naples Florida that has 6 lanes, a divider, great visibility, and maybe 2 access points in a mile or two. Speed limit?...35mph. The cops are out there running laser quite often and generating a lot of revenue for the city/county government.

The speed limit gets decreed by the wizard of oz for all we citizens know. Yet we are all supposed to assume that the "government" picks the speed limit based on road conditions and safety concerns by "experts."

Speed limits have become similar to warning labels. They are often so ridiculous, ("do not use while bathing" on my wife’s blow dryer for instance, or "remove before driving" on the sun shades that cover the entire windshield of a car,) that nobody really puts much stock in them anymore. They drive the speed limit strictly to obey the government mandates and avoid the financial wrath of said government's. -not because they think another 10mph would put them or anyone else in jeopardy.

There are still traffic limits that are set in a thoughtful manner but they get lost in the noise of all the other nonsense out there.

My favorite example is the "advisory" signs for curves. In Florida, a "35mph" advisory sign means you can safely negotiate the turn in the rain, on four corded tires, through an oil slick, at say 45mph. Absolutely useless advisory speed signs in Florida. In WV though, I was surprised to find that their signs make sense. 35mph advisory means 45mph will make your tires sing and palms sweaty -under perfect conditions. IIRC the tail of the dragon's advisory signs are ok also.

With so many speed limits set artificially low, few people give them much credence. The only difference between most speed limits and the tag on my mattress that reads “DO NOT REMOVE UNDER PENALTY OF LAW” is that people don’t have to worry about getting a ticket on their mattress. "

Also, watch out for traffic light cameras in Lynnwood. They set them up on almost every lights in Lynnwood and see em flashing all the time. They are over $100. I got one and learned my lesson. Good news is that they won't go on your driving record.

I would get one, but I live in a city where every light has a camera. It won't stop beepin. I also found a better solution. "Don't run a red light!"

I was thinking of the newer speed cameras that use sensors in the ground rather than radar. (Running red lights can cause much bigger problems than tickets.)

I don't think they have speed cameras in Seattle area. Do we? I also want something to detect Laser (WSP uses them). All Laser detectors won't work unless they are shooting you. But that's too late!! I guess I need Laser jammer.

Doesn't work with the new cameras. They can get your plate with video back-up. (no flash)

Default Coming to a county near you

Motorists in the mid and south county areas are advised to watch their
speed this weekend because law enforcement will be paying special
attention. Thirty-two officers from 15 agencies in Pierce County will
begin ticketing law breakers Saturday as early as 7 a.m. on State Routes
161 (Meridian), 7 (Pacific Highway) and 512 as part of a statewide
mobilization. Officers also will be looking for speeders on 176th
Street East and Sunrise Boulevard.

The special enforcement will operate all day and into the night. Pierce
County Sheriff's deputies will focus Saturday night on drivers under
the age of 25 who street race on county roads surrounding the target
area. "We've had several fatalities and near-fatalities in recent
years from kids floor-boarding it on a whim and prayer," said Sgt.
Paul Schneider. "We also get complaints about the activity from local
residents. Our tolerance for high-risk driving by young males is
zero."

The emphasis action is aimed at stopping crashes before they happen by
implementing a patrol involving multiple agencies somewhere in the state
every week of the year. The public does not make the connection between
speeding and fatal crashes as readily as it does between impaired
driving and fatalities. Yet, drivers in Washington driving over the
speed limit have been responsible for about 40 percent of traffic deaths
in recent years.

The extra year-long patrols are expected to reduce these fatalities.
The strategy is based on evidence from other states that sustained
emphasis patrols, along with targeted media, significantly change the
behavior of risk-taking drivers.

The Tacoma Pierce County DUI Task Force received an $85, 000 grant from
the Washington Traffic Safety Commission to conduct both speed and DUI
patrols through the end of September. Participating agencies in Pierce
County are matching these grant funds, enabling police to conduct five
speed and five DUI multi-agency patrols.

Motorists can expect to see the following agencies outside their usual
jurisdictions beginning this weekend: Ruston, Gig Harbor, Tacoma,
Fircrest, Sumner, Steilacoom, Puyallup, Lakewood, Fife, University
Place, Bonney Lake, Dupont and Milton police departments along with the
Pierce County Sheriff's Department. The Washington State Patrol is
participating by providing dispatch and assigning extra troopers to the
effort.

I read where the WA legislature is passing a bill that would authorize tribal police to issue tickets anywhere in Washington. Apparently training in the respect of citizen's rights is not important to our legislature and our Governess. What is next? Deputizing the firefighters and all government workers with government cars?

When people lose respect for the law enforcers, they lose respect for the laws. When that happens the culture goes downhill fast enough to get a speeding ticket.

No one can say crime doesn't pay anymore. With the speed traps, itinerant police, and spy cameras, crime is paying the government handsomely.

You did the right thing. In Seattle, a cop came up to me as I was parked with my headlights on waiting for my GF to get out of Subway. He was telling me how cool of a car I had and if he could take a look at the back seats. I had nothing to hide so I told him sure and he just walked away after a peek.

If they can see my back seats, they are superior human beings as I haven't ever been able to see them.

here in WA cops cannot search your vehicle. there are no random seaches and seizures. the bill of rights states that clearly, its in the 4th amendment. so, next time when an officer asks you to search you vehicle, tell him to f/off.
