Default Where to stay/what to see in Seattle

Going to Seattle for all day Saturday and Sat night to celebrate my gf's bday. She wants to go shopping at Nordstrom, etc as well as see the tourist things: Space Needle, Pike's market... We're over 21 so bars, clubs etc are also potential

What else should we see/do?
Where should we stay?

I'll also be leaving Sunday morning to head to Packwood to auto-x so I want a good exit out of city. What is the best route to Packwood from Seattle?

Thanks in advance!

Even though I joined the SCCA I haven't been to Packwood yet first350 would know ... I found a great authentic Philly cheese steak place in Seattle downtown in pioneer square called TAT's they even put cheese whiz on the sandwich if you want it. The underground tour is cool down there as well, never disappoints unles you are freaked out by confined spaces.

Oh BTW stay at the Westin either downtown Seattle or in Bellevue, they are the nicest I have stayed in for the money... feather beds and pillows and the best views!

The space needle is idiotic and the market will be full of overweight tourists in khaki shorts and white tennis shoes. Don't bother with the monorail. In the past couple years it's caught on fire and the cars nearly pushed each other off the rails. If you want to do something outside go north on I-5 to Greenlake (65th st exit, stay on Ravenna). The weekend should be nice.

As far as food/clubs it depends what you're interested in. It basically goes like this though:

Kirkland--drama
Georgetown--beer and beards
Capitol Hill--hipster bars
Upper Queen Anne--older, wine bars
Lower Queen Anne--younger, fun
Belltown--drama
Pioneer Square--homeless people, frat boys
Fremont--hipster kids with rich parents
Ballard--hipster yuppies with beards

Place's I'd look up are: J&M Cafe, Mecca Cafe, Ibiza, Paragon, Peso's, Amber, Brauwer's, La Carta de Oaxaca.

Thanks for the help guys. So in place of the space needle would it be worth going to the Smith Tower instead?

After talking to my gf again she doesn't want to go to any clubs or bars. Just a decent lunch and dinner when we are they. Then walk around and check out fun places. What's the best thing to do about parking down there?

I guess I'm being too hard on the Space Needle. Check it out, it's one of a kind. I've never heard of Smith Tower being a tourist attraction though.

I really like sitting outside and eating. Duke's on Greenlake would be awesome on Saturday. If you're looking to spend some $, check out Restaurant Zoe in Belltown.

Best place I've eaten in Seattle, and I've eaten pretty much everywhere.

Hey Ruff,
If you go, head down to pier57 and eat at the Crab Pot. YUM!
I got Raven and some others hooked on the place.

If you want to get a hold of Raven or any of the PCE gang, send me an IM and I'll send you some phone numbers.
There are a dozen or so of them in Seattle and the Lynnwood area.
They'll all remember a hacker like you!
I mean great CS player. J/K! LMAO!

I guess if your gf wanna go to the downtown Nordstrom, I would just park in the parking garage (pay) of Pacific Place and go through the mall and cross the bridge to the Nordstrom.

You could walk 10 minutes to pike place market or pier. There are a few places to eat there. You could drive there too but parking will be hard to find because of good weather this weekend. There are many good restaurants all over the place in downtown.

If you have some time to drive and enjoy this nice weekend, I would go to Alki beach in West Seattle. One of the top two views of Seattle. (Other one is a park in QueenAnne) You can walk on the beach, show off your car, there are a few places to eat too. Salty's to Spud's. Only thing is that it will be busy for sure.

Enjoy your stay in seattle and happy birthday to your girlfriend.

Oh, and from Seattle to Packwood -- right now all of the "shorter" roads are still closed due to snow.

Best route: Hwy 7 through Spanaway to Elbe, turn south (right) towards Morton, turn east (left) on Hwy 12 to Packwood.

Not as short: I-5 to Hwy 12 east.

Thanks for all the help everyone! If you see a Loud, silverstone 06 Z around downtown with Oregon plates, Wave!

Lol Gary, thanks for the other recommendations, if I had more time I would see the old crew, but I'm only up there for the day and night.

Hands down the best restaurant around here. Though, I hear Herb Farm will give it a run for its (lots of) money.

Thanks again everyone for the replies.

We ended up having dinner during the sunset at Salty's. Very, very good food and service. They even parked the Z right up front at an angle next to a white Z with Ray's wheels so no one could park next to us.
