Default Weight in Trunk/Hatch?

Question: Just confirming that there is a weight in the trunk/hatch (under the paneling) in a 350Z.

I think Jay was telling me the other day there was and it is removable. Main reason because my trunk won't open on its own with the huge spoiler, so removing a bit a weight may help it. Just want to confirm before I try to tear apart the trunk hatch.

Here's an old thread on it: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....t=trunk+weight

Here's another thread with links to different hatch struts if that doesn't work out: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....t=trunk+weight

If you remove the weight and the rear wiper, it might shave off about 5 to 10 lbs max. You might need new struts.

I'd remove that weight anyways.

Thanks for info. I tried to talk to Nissan about it the weight, man those guys are so clueless about anything; I'm surprised they even know what a 350Z is. (Note: this is the Belluevue Nissan that I'm referring to)

I removed mine like 4 years ago. I don't think that it would weigh more than a pound or two. Remove it and look for the "Nickel fix" (I think that is the right search term). It basically increases the force for the spings that "pop" the hatch.
