Zimo- thanks, but i don't want an MR, i don't want the 6 speed, its not as robust as the 5 speed

kacz- why not? seems like a very fair price to me

The MR 6spd is fine. It's a well built tranny, the people you talk to that mess theirs up is the ones feeling the need to drop the clutch at 6k and such abuse. Most others don't even have MRs because it's more rare and the cost is more so they want to stand by their GSR. I have seen a couple 400whp+ MR track cars on the forum so don't be afraid to go for it. In my opinion you're getting a lot more for the money. When they came out the MR was about 5-7k more than the GSR. Now they're probly 2-3k more but the problem is finding a nice one.

With the MR you'll get:

-Bilstein Suspension
-BBS forged alloys
-Zero Lift package
-Aluminum Roof (has raised lines on each side)
-6 speed close ratio transmission
-Momo Aluminum shift ****
-Momo Carbon Fiber e-brake
-Triple Gauge Pack (Boost, Oil Press, Oil Temp)
-MR Badgings

I think it's well worth the price difference and you'll have a rarer car that's more desirable especially for resale. It's like buying the Nismo Z.

but back when i was shopping for an evo the first time around (when i bought my z, rwd won over), i bunch of people who tracked their MR's had 4th gear go out on them. The thing is I will be doing 6k rpm launch's and I will be tracking it.

the only thing pushing me away from the MR is the 6 speed

My buddy just picked up an Evo IX. He started right away with performance mods and wheels. He shooting for modest #'s of $400whp which, apparently, is really easy/cheap to do with the Evo. Bodykit comes later, not first

He was saying that people with the 6speeds are even swapping them out for 5speeds too.

For all but the brand new Evo/STi debate, I'd go with the Impreza. Guess I just like the looks of the Subies much better.

looks isn't much of an issue for me when it comes o the evo/sti. i want the evo over the sti for the engine. it spools quicker (even thought it has .5 L less displacement), and is much easier to work on. the evo typically makes better power too. most gt35r sti's i've seen are usually low to mid 500's whp, while the gt35r evos are usually high 500's to mid 600's. its the long exhaust path to the turbo that kills both spool and all out power. but i'm not gonna be going up to power levels that high anyway, the main thing killing the sti for me is the slower spool and difficulty to work on. and the evo has less understeer than the sti, thus it handles better...
