Default Touch Up Paint

Anyone use touch up paint for your Z? I got a couple of scratches on my car which I want to touch up. Should I just buy the touch up paint, or paint pen, or both?

I was thinking to use the original touch up paint, but then use the paint pens clear coat side.

good luck man, I did this and made my scratches and chips look worse, though it's probably due to my inexperience with anything paint related. should have just called a mobile touch up / detailer, if I wanted to get my hood looking proper now it would cost me a lot more :/ tis a bummer.

how much do you think it would cost a professional to touch up the scratches/chips? Did they give you a quote?

Most touch-up paint is way too thick. The trick is to find the right thinner, thin it out a bit, and apply it in very thin layers, leaving appropriate drying time between. This is a PITA. Nissan touch-up paint appears to dry VERY quickly, making a difficult job even more challenging. Good luck.

to get it near perfect, you need to fill the chip with paint, then get some 1500-2000 grit wet sanding paper with a block and sand it smooth again. then just buff it out. if the paint match is good, it will be almost undetectable.

sorry dude I never got an official quote, just some brief research and talking to a shop owner who suggested I call someone, told me it would be around 100$, but while he was there he could fill in any other scratches or chips while he was at it.

would have rather paid that. now I am just living with the blemish since I'd have to have the hood redone/resprayed entirely to have it look right, and if I'm spending that kind of money, I'd rather put it towards something aftermarket.

I do use touch up paint. On my silver alloy, it works pretty good. It does dry fast, but it's thin and the color match is good. I wouldn't use it on big areas, but rock chips and small scratches cover pretty well and look O.K. - for touch up.

I just use the brush. The marker wasn't as easy to use for me.

I have found that using touch-up paint works well, but apply it by using matches. I pull out a match from a book of matches, and use the torn part of the match as a paint brush. Has worked very well for my family and I.

All your suggestions are great thank you! I think I'll just go to a auto detailer professional and have them detail my car inside and out. I think thats the best option for the buck. I mean I could probably do it myself, but i've used touch up paint on my old 1994 acura legend and it just looked horrendous.

I have a lot of little chips on the front bumper obviously because of all the loose gravel from the arctic blast. And my passenger headlight housing is chipped because of a large rock flung by a semi in front of me -_________________-

I have mini chips that are not noticeable on my driver door. On my passenger side there is a huge chip because of some stupid fat kid who opened the passenger door wide as hell and never said anything to me, just left with his parents like nothing happened (dumb people). And I have two little chips on my bumper (not noticeable). And yesterday I forgot how the stupid rear wiper comes off (forgot you have to take off that base rubber crap then fold it up) so the dumb wiper scratched my hatch (not noticeable unless pointed out)

All these not noticeable scratches are unacceptable to me lol.

If you guys want, I can post pics.

Now the touch-up paint bottle doesnt come with a bottle of clear coat does it? So is that area that you touched up more prone to the elements? Because I know the paint pen comes with one side paint one side clear coat.

true. If you catch someone who works at a dealership on the right day, they have clearcoat lying around since alot of scratches can be fixed by just cleaning the area and using clear coat only (no paint). Only bad part is that it drys up and is only good for 1 day. Our painter guy that comes has it on him each time though.
