Default job is changing a bit, commute from everett to sea.. advice?

hey dudes -

I am going to be driving to Seattle from Everett 3 days a week. I haven't had to deal with the traffic, I know it is horrendous.

I have some flexibility in my scheduling, I get to kind of pick and choose it a bit. bearing in mind that parking costs seem to go way up past 9am (do they?), what do you think I should try out for my starting time in the morning?

would arrival by 7 be early enough to avoid dead stop traffic? would leaving by 6 get me there on time?

I am utterly clueless so I appreciate any info some of you folks could help me out with.

To be honest i'm not sure when traffic actually dies down going southbound. I live and work in Bellevue. I had a meeting up north and took I5 at around 7:30. I remember seeing what looked like a parking lot in all traffic lanes going southbound. Check out the DOT website, they might have some clues on when the best times would be.

Good luck.

Take the Sounder Train. It's almost a straight shot from Everett to Seattle and it's a lot faster than driving. It lets you off at King Street Station, which is right next to the transit tunnel, so it's pretty easy to connect to downtown. If you're going to drive, stick to the express lanes once you get close to the city.

What part of the city are you commuting to? Most parking lots have early bird specials (end at 9AM) for about 10 bucks. You can get parking for a lot less if you don't mind the walk. Quest Field Exhibition Center garage parking is 5 bucks.

You'll be fine, leave at 6:30 to 7 if you have to, that exit has bad construction on Stewart past Denny way, so if you turn onto Denny from there you are fine as well. Its not as big and scary as you make it out to be. I have commuted downtown Seattle (Belltown area) for 9 years and I can get all the way from the eastside (Woodinville/Bothell) to downtown wherever I want in less than 30 minutes depending on times of course.

cool thanks man. its actually like a block off of the exit so it's pretty handy in that regard. I am not a fan of traffic so I was concerned, that makes me feel a little better.

the flexibility the company is offering me really helps. I am going to try a 7-3 schedule and leave at 6 and see if I get there on time. worst case scenario if I'm late, stay a little later. : )

If you leave at 6 you will almost definitely make it there regularly by 7. My wife drives to Northgate from south Auburn daily and usually takes her around one hour.

Yeah, you can thank the economy for the non-traffic.. nobody has jobs anymore. Once the economy picks up, so will the traffic. I remember when I was still goin to the U, I'd have to leave at 6 to make it for an 8 o'clock class from everett. Brutal...
