Default Squeakfest Northwest 2009

Hi folks -

I'm new to my350z.com, though I've spent many years on other boards covering the various cars I've owned. I know how important social networking with knowledgeable people can be when it comes to cars.

I had an idea about holding a meet some afternoon this summer where anyone who has issues with interior squeaks, rattles and other noises can get together and try to diagnose the location of the noise, fix it and then follow-up with a DIY to benefit the entire board. This would involve a serious and involved attempt to survey known problem areas both inside the cabin and around the suspension area.

I'd be happy to volunteer my garage to help other people fix rattles and I figure that in a good afternoon, we could probably make our way through about a half dozen cars.

I'm pretty good at tearing the Z apart, since I've just wrapped-up a full audio install where I basically removed every interior panel except the upper dashboard. I also have very good hearing (for now ) and an unbelievably low tolerance for squeaks and rattles.

If we do this, it'll have to happen on a weekend. I live near Genesee Park in Seattle (where they hold the hydroplane races every year). Let me know if any of you are interested and I'll put something together.

- Craig

Sounds interesting, I have a weird rattle by the passanger airbag area. Have no clue what the hell it is. Maybe the airbag will explode, maybe not. Would be funny either way actually.

There is a 'knee guard' bracket just behind there that rattles some metal around .. there is a DIY on the DIY forum that involves putting some padding or double sided tape on it to eliminate it. I've been putting that on the back burner but I have the issue as well. it should be as simple as tearing the dash open.

this isn't a bad idea. DIY's on the forum would benefit more then just the local area for sure.

There's a how-to in the DIY forum that addresses this issue. I followed the instructions when I had the dash apart to hard-wire my Garmin and it worked out great. There's a metal knee guard on the lower part of the passenger dash that has some metal-on-metal rattling. It's easily fixed with a bit of gaffing tape and a socket wrench. Takes all of 10 minutes to do.

I've never had an airbag explode on me... yet.

lol - at least you've gone through with the DIY! I've been trying to ignore the rattle, I kind of fear breaking some clips and having the dash messed up! :|

Hey guys, for what it's worth, I pulled out my driver's seat, lubed every hinge I could find with lithium grease, put some gaffing tape between the floor and the seat's mounting posts, bolted it back in and voilla! 90% of my squeaks and rattles are gone. I'm feeling much better about life in general now.
