I always thought the majority of traffic was caused by idiots not knowing how to merge in our state. that's what I've observed anyways..

as long as they don't implement camera enforced speed limits I welcome things like this, I hope it makes the drive to and from Seattle a little more pleasant.

It's an interesting idea to help alleviate the effects of the underlying, but it does nothing to address the root cause; the fact that drivers in Washington State are far too passive and skittish to be allowed on the road and their presence compromises the safety of others.

I agree with your assessment of "idiots not knowing how to merge." The speed limit on the highway here is 60 mph (for the most part). It is NOT 35 mph until which point in time you've managed to accelerate to 50-55 mph and then stop accelerating.

Yet another cause is the failure of motorists to plan ahead; braking while in the far left lane to be able to cut across three lanes of traffic to make your exit that's 100 yards away is completely inexcusable. If you've managed to not pay attention or maneuver in a fashion that enables you to safely take your exit without compromising the safety of others then you should continue to the next exit, and better luck next time.

I also feel that a lot of the failure to plan ahead is predicated on people focusing instead on technology rather than driving; extended periods of time adjusting their radio, talking on the phone, and worst of, texting. While the latter two are now technically offenses with RCW statutes, they're secondary offenses; one can only be cited for them if stopped for a primary violation. I believe they should be elevated.

These types of behavior all combine to create, to my mind, the root of the issue. There's little that can be done about it though, unfortunately. The only option, as I see it, is for LEOs to step up patrols in unmarked vehicles and issue more citations for these actions which amount to reckless driving. Educational courses and testing will unfortunately have a negligible impact at best. Individuals will quickly revert to their old habits unattended without negative consequences, and any form of testing immediately places an individual in to a heightened sense of awareness and provides incentive to perform better.

I think after driving in Cali and Texas, I realize that 80% of the drivers in Seattle will not be able to drive outside of washington.

I always drive and ride like I stole something but even I was pleasantly surprised at the way people drove in Jamaica. It's like they're on a NASCAR track....in a good way.

The lack of attention people devote to driving here is reckless in and of itself.

wtf? so when traffic gets congested they lower the speed limit? am i missing something? how much is being spent on this project?

I think I read the research was 2 mil and the construction is 23 mil ...

I think I also recall them saying 70% of congestion is created from accidents..

don't really agree with it =/

I agree that you don't agree.

The ppl who assess this are idiots. Conjestion happens from retards who slow down or stop in the middle of the freak'n freeway just so they can move their azz over. And those who don't realize that the speed limit has been changed to 60 mph for some time. And those who need to move over to the far left hand lane as soon as they merge onto traffic. And of course the retards who don't match the traffic while merging. etc etc so on and so forth.
