Question for those who own a 370Z
Let me talk to my former car salesman- I know he has some inside track on what they try to screw you on. He has told me in the past that his dealership wasn't as bad as most, but they still marked up prices about 400-500 bucks on useless stuff...
I assume that is an auto+nav, illuminated kick plates, plus front and rear carpets? Even on Nissan's site, fully loaded it's $41,960.
Given that they are already starting at $2k over I'd just go find another dealer unless they really bring that price down. You might get the to at or under invoice, but I wouldn't think you could get them another $2k down. If you did I'd insist you come with me to buy my next car.
Honestly I hated dealing with the dealers in the area. All of them had silly *** markup and had their heads in another dimension when it came to pricing. Most of them were total *** clowns when it came to negotiations.
I looked around for ages and finally Wilsonville Nissan had a "special" with all Z's marked at $4k under. Rustom matched them and I liked the salesman there better.
Hope that wasn't too long winded.
Also, *******.com has a great pricing area on it if you want more info.

Ron Tonkin Nissan wouldn't even let me test drive a couple months ago LOL! Anyway, so here is what happened. I went to beaverton nissan (they have all Z's $5K off special) looked at the one for $43K mark up which was MSRPed at 41K(yes at/nav kick plate carpet etc.). They started talking about $502 82 months and I said no no no we start negotiating price first then worry about payments. So after the $5K off the car would be at $36K. That is $1K over the actual invoice of $35K, but really, who knows what actual invoice of the 370Z really is. So, we don't know right. So I wanted $11K for my car, they came and said $7,500 I said no. Then they said they'd give me $10,500 and the car for $41K i said no, then they said $36K. I said no, then they started talking about the payments again and told them i dont want to go in circles here. Thus, they still wanted my car and I wanted there car. I offered $33,900 is the best I can do, because if the invoice is already at "$35K" then I can always bargain up to $2-3K below. So basically I said take my car for $10,500 and give me the Z for $33,900 so I'd have a $23,400 loan, which if you include 3.9% financing with excellent credit would be around $425 a month for 60 months. That is what I was shooting for, they still wanted $502 for 82, then asked $425 for 82 months. We know and they know that no one is going to buy a Nissan 370Z for a price of $43K when the car starts at $37K and invoice is around $35K. They are paying more money letting it sit on there lot, which won't move since no one is going to buy a sports car in this time of the year. Especially in this horrible economy when they can give it to me
, and actually make more money off me. Welp, that's my story. And if they call and still say $36K i'll say $33,900
. Opinions would be nice
P.S. They'll call

And I'll check out Rustom

Sand - you have waaaay more patience than I ever would. The wife and I did most of our shopping and haggling online. Ron Tonkin was off my list almost immediately as they weren't willing to negotiate via email/phone.
I emailed around for quotes and you could get a good sense of the sales guys by their response or lack thereof. Again, the Nissan dealers in the area weren't as responsive as the Honda or Ford dealers I've dealt with. Usually I'd end up on the phone with someone, but that doesn't bother me as long as the price is right.
In the end, I refuse to walk into a dealership unless we've already agreed on a price. I also always attempt to sell an existing car myself. I put up our '08 Element on Craigslist with a nice ad and had it sold in 4 days. Not typical...usually takes a month or two...but I got $21k for it when the dealerships were offering $15k.

Another thing, there are six of them. No one is buying right now. More money is being taken out of that dealership letting them sit there. Either way they are making interest off me, but I want them to make interest off my terms not there's. I'm not going to let some dealership rip me off by pulling the whole ohhh $475 a month for 82 months if you buy for $36,800. You think I'm really that stupid? Give it to me for $33,900 and I guarantee my APR will be 3.9% or less so I can do $475 or less in 60 months
