Performance car business is not so good when there is not much money floating around. On the other hand the good shops are still busy

I just bought coilovers online, going to mode my z unlike last time. It's cheaper to buy online and there is a better selection too. I think a shop has to have value, such as services to make it.

yeah, lets face it, online pricing is better and 90% of the time the shop has nothing in stock for the Z - they just have suppliers and the wait will be equal. they don't really make their money on parts, the service and labor rate is where it's at. Need a good selection of services with valued feedback in all areas, too.

Pure performance shops .. not a lot of people going FI right now : P

This is true. But sometimes its nice to have a physical place you can go to and a person you can talk to when you're dropping a huge chunk of change on some parts

Maybe they're used, and sold them to you as new? From what Mark is telling me, it sounds like something they would do. haha.

the entire industry is hurting.

because people buy online from places like ebay, it's a lot harder for anyone to make more than a few bucks off parts. and along with the economy being bad, even the suppliers are not stocking everything, most JDM parts have to be special ordered from japan, before they can be delivered to their american customer.

if everyone continues to buy from ebay, there wont be anymore shops to install the parts.

sure there will be. they will just have to offer as many auto related services as possible and have good customer service. the profit margin should not be in parts.

that being said, if the price difference is small enough, I buy through the shop to support them, but if I am saving hundreds, I'll hunt for a deal.

I've found that I can usually get comparable prices to the online vendors through the shop, they can and will cut deals for "loyal customers"...

Plus they will warranty it. If they try and give me something I didn't order there's a real person there every day from 10-6 who's ***** I can grab

I've heard so many horror stories about busted-*** made in china crap from ebay... not even gonna go there.

it makes sense doesn't it? returning customers get better deals. if you walk into a shop for the first time, they don't know if your going to be a returning customer, so why not charge you for as much as they can since that may be the only time you buy from them? if they know your going to be a repeat customer, then there's good reason to give them a good deal.

well with that kind of thinking the bussiness will not survive. you got to treat all customers thinking they will be customers for life!
