Default LSD shop install

I'm looking for a shop (or skilled mechanic) that can do an LSD install. I have my original OEM pumpkin w/ the open diff (viscous is currently in Z) and I was thinking of a Cusco RS 1.5.

I've contacted 8-Velocity in Lynwood and received a quote for labor and parts. I'd like to be able to compare it to at least one other place before making a decision. Speedware in Redmond?... ehhh... they're outta my league and price range. Only looking for the installation of the LSD into the pumpkin, I'll be installing it on the car myself.

If anyone has had one done locally to their Z, I'd appreciate the recommendation. Thanks.

My car is an '07 Base. I got a pumpkin from an '06 VLSD equipped Z and installed it. I still have the original open-diff pumpkin stored in the garage.

Too aggressive lock on throttle off and braking. 1.5 way is preferred for most track and autoX applications.

That 06 a 3.538 rear ratio? You putting the LSD in your open unit right?

I'd be interested in the 3.535 rear VLSD if you're willing to let it go for a good price.

i would say the woodinville guy, or stage performance in kirkland. both have done work for me, and both have good pricing. I dont suppose one of your pumpkins has a 3.3 (automatic) final drive does it? I would love to get rid of my 3.5

If he sells his to me, I'd have a 3.3 fd available. Open diff though

lol... I still haven't bought the LSD so I'm still potentially a few weeks away from getting this done. Once I get it swapped in I'll let you guys know what I plan to do w/ the VLSD. If/when I sell it, it will be local.

Plans may change; First350 is really egging me on for more speed at our next PGP outting and I'm thinking a set of R-comps and wheels might be a better solution for now. A sale is pending on the wheels I posted earlier. If they sell then I'll go that route and the LSD will be pushed out a little further.

Both are great shops and great customer service, but considering that OP lives in Renton I think Drift Office or Intec would be closest for him?

Oh, and Jeff92se I don't think Drew wants an open diff on his 350zTT loolz.

What's the diff if it's open or not when he'll need a clutch type LSD anyway?

I'm kinda getting tired of my Nismo LSD. Really want a Quaife for daily driving. I'm also tired of thinking the punk in the Hondu behind your rear ended you but it really only the diff.

Talk to Mark Snell about what he would recommend for your car.

Hmmm... any chance you'd be willing to sell that Nismo, pumpkin & all? What gear ratio do you have on your FD?

I believe Mark (AKA: Lateapex) had a Nismo too, right? He's been out of a Z for a couple of years now. I spoke to First350 about his experience, I drove his car a couple of times on the road and the Cusco (80% lock) and I wasn't bothered by the noise. He said the Nismo was noisier by comparison.

Question: I was thinking of going for a less aggressive setting than First350, 60%, 70% at most. Does that make the LSD noisier, quieter or have no effect?

My Nismo LSD came from Mark, we swapped diffs just before he got the Miata, about 2006.

The more aggressive you drive the smoother it is, trying to drive very easy will get you the genuine "hit by a Honda" nasty feeling. I have got out to look for damage more than once.

Im sure any of the above shops listed can handle hour diff, but personally I would take it to the diff specialists. They have done thousands of diff work in all makes and won`t ever f-up.

My brother (S2k, Hachiroku) and I (my 350z, and jeep cj7) always take our diff work to Northwest Diff. in Kirkland. They always have done excellent job on our diff/locker. We will continue to take our diff work to them...

Good luck!
