Trust me, the car situation in Australia ain't all great. In fact, it's prettying f-ing awful. I'm married to an Aussie and have spent a LOT of time down there. There are about a half dozen car models that EVERYONE owns. A 350Z is considered an exotic down there. Consider this: the same 370Z that would cost you $35,000 USD here costs about $75,000 USD over there.
Holdens are typical GM crap, just like Chevys are over here. I've rented Commodores and a Monaro (for sh-ts and giggles on a road trip to Noosa) and thought, "Wow, I'd be paying twice the price for the same crap I get in the USA." I once saw a USA-imported C4 Corvette in Perth, and the government made they guy put a giant sticker that covered the width of the entire rear bumper reading, "WARNING - LEFT-HAND DRIVE VEHICLE".
You'll see a couple of cars (rarely) that you don't see in the USA, but really, that's more or less the situation in every country outside our borders. Even Canada has cars that they don't sell in the US.
When my step kids (both adults, one is a Toyota Service Tech) come out here, they're amazed at the variety and utter coolness of the cars on our highways. That always makes me laugh, but then I think, "Oh yeah, you're from Australia, where everyone drives the same basic sh-tbox."
The one thing they have there that I'd like to see here are their Utes, but I'm guessing they'd sell like used cabbage patch dolls since we already tried those with the El Camino, Ranchero, etc. and no one was very interested in them except a fringe audience.
Trust me, we have it so much better here in the USA than they have it in Australia as far as car selection is concerned.
Now their free health care system... that's something I'd like to see out here. I'll be retiring out there with the wife to get a piece of that.
