Default Good dyno tuning in the 503?

Just wondering about any good dyno (tuning) places up near the portland area. I ask because my vortech is giving me a few problems since the drive up from so cal. i did a little searching and came up with torque freaks by pdx. I talked to them on the phone and they seemed cool but i have no idea where to go or who to talk to. a little help if i could please
thanks
Dustin

well the cog(toothed) belt is wearing down and getting really noisy, and i'm starting to kick out white smoke so the car is running lean...crap!!! its about time that i take it in and get it tuned and vortech is sending me some stronger belts to see if that fixes the problem. i sure as heck hope so.

I dyno'd my g there a couple of months ago. I really wouldn't hesitate tuning your car there. They work a lot with supras (some running 30+ lbs. and 900+RWHP) so they got to know what they are doing. If and when I decide to go FI, that's where I'm going to get it installed and tuned.

I could make it down during lunch to check it out. I'm thinking about going FI and I haven't even seen one yet. Let me know as we get closer to your appointment.

I just purchase a vortech SC, would be interested it what your turn up. What caused the problem to begin with? How many miles did you have on SC when you noticed the wear. Since mine has been installed yet what advice or suggestion do you have regarding the install.

well i'm not too sure what the problem is. It was installed on january 16th and i've put on about 5000 miles on it. it was installed by vortech if you want to see the install pick up the june/july issue of NOPI street compact the install of the S/C on my car is in there.(plus some sweet shots too) when i got it back i didn't notice anything wrong about it, but they did tell me that it was never tuned. after about 3800 miles i noticed black smoke comming out under full throttle a little so i thought that i might need some new spark plugs so i got some 1 step cooler NGKs and installed them about a week before i drove up to oregon. Oh and the belt wear i would guess would come from all the track time and hard runs through the canyons of so cal that might have done it in. but it needs to be replaced and the air filter is black as night so that may contribute to the louder S/C sound as well but am not too sure. I want to get a new filter that i can take off and put on without taking off the whole S/C. I've seen some but am waiting for some power #s. So now i get a whole lot of smoke and i think that the plugs might have thrown it off even more than before so i need to see where my a/f is and tune it with a good fuel map by people that know what they are doing. I hope torque freaks does!
sorry that was so long but thats what i know so far. I would suggest that you tune it when you get it installed just to be safe. I know the black smoke means that i'm running rich, which is not that bad of a thing but i'm losing HP! I want to run it at the track here in SO. Or. soon. i miss the rush.

Thanks for your reply, this is the information that I'm looking for.
My intentions are to have it run out on a dyno after installation. There's a shop in Kirkland that I'll probable use as they specialize in FI & Carbs. I'm doing some mods to the SC install. No changes to operation of the sc just ceramic coating of the piping and heat dispersal coating of the intercooler. I notice where the filter is located and how small it was. I need to see if I can use part of my injien intake system to relocate the filter behind the grill out of the engine compartment. It uses the same size piping. Then I can use the larger filter. I'm even going to use a thermo barrier coating on the top of the air pluium (sp). Since I purchased the cheaper satin unit instead of the polish, the cost of the work to be done by Performance Coating in Aurburn will be balance out.
Best of Luck

well sounds like you have a project on your hands. some suggestions i would add: the intercooler might be in the way of the injen piping unless you mod it a lot to stick it down where the AEM intake goes but then the piping from the intercooler is possibly in the way. Not much room down there if you are considering heat reduction to the engine. the most heat you will have to worry about is the oil. And for that i would serioulsy consider a new oil pan. Power enterprise make a new oil pan with cooling fins that greatly reduce heat and you may want to mod the stupid body plastic under the car to expose the pan to allow more air run over the pan. The best thing about this supercharger in that it really doesn't run that hot. unlike the TTs which are much hotter. but you may be on to something here. I haven't heard about coating that much of the engine. good luck and keep us posted

Today, 7/1, dyno my newly installed SC at Racz Performance Motorworks in Kirkland. The results from the run on the their Dynojet were Hp at 6400 349.0 and Torque 308 at 4800. I had a previous dynojet done there in April at Z club event. My car then had some mods, custom exhaust and injen intake. Hp 245 and T 236. at about the same rpms as todays test. The air/Fuel started out at 15.6 @ 2000 rpm dropping to 10.9 at 6500. I did a baseline on another dynojet in Feb. but it was a four gear run, the above were 5th gear runs. The baseline 217hp & 209T. I'm happy with the results. The dyno tech. said that those air/fuel ratio were good safe reading. The installer did find away to move the air filter forward. I will say this the car does have a high pitch wine at start up and some times at idle. The noise come out of the blowoff valve. If you put your hand in front of the outlet in stops. http://www.clearimageautomotive.com/350Z.htm , they did the install and I believe they are going to post pictures on their website, tomorrow. Did you get yours tuned?

Default not sure what happened?

well i did get it tuned but to my shock the car has a very hard time getting the FMU to work properly. I did finish with a perfect 11.4 A/F accross the board but when we tried to pull back the timing at all the car would throw a fit. i got up to 331hp but with a very bad dip at the end of the powerban(will post pics when the stupid scanner will work again) so we pulled the timing back and ended with only 300hp. what the hell is wrong!?!?! i have no idea. i know that i have added a whole lot of weight but i think that there is something seriously wrong with my kit even though i have a great A/F i can't figure for the life of me why i can't get anymore HP?! it feels fast but i have an 11 sec DSM so i'm not happy with my #s. what can i do. i will start a new post in the F/I section when i get my dyno maps in the computer.
talk to you all later
Dustin (not happy)

Hey Dustin-
I've seen your car a couple of times when I've been at T.F. It looks great and should be hellish fast when they get it done. The last I heard, they thought it would be out this week. When are you picking it up?

hi bruce!

yeah well i was up there that week to pick it up but it wasn't ready. the electrical had to be looked at a little closer to make sure that it was be fine (and fast) before i took it back. they are now going to ship it out to me once thier master tuner guy gets back from AEM down here in cali. and finishes the final tuning phase. hopefully like next week or so it will be on its way back to so cal. if its what i think it will be i won't have any regrets waiting so long.
