New Years in the bay area
Me and my wife just moved here a couple weeks ago, and we are trying to plan something for new years. Where are the parties and the best places to ring in the new year around the bay... If the bay sucks for new years then we might head to vegas again, but we would like to see how it is here. thanks

yeah vegas is a blast on new years, but we have done that before so we were kind of hoping there was something worth while here. if not i guess we should go ahead and book tickets to go to vegas.
The monterey bay aquarium is a pretty fun place for new years. Some of the fish exhibits are open with the night lighting. Its a fun atmosphere. Around 25-45yr old crowd. No problems there. Its pretty pricey but not too bad.
one of our options was the new years cruise on Hornblower. i think it is 230 a person. here is the description:
Enjoy a four-course seated dinner, open premium bar, including after dinner liquors and champagne, festive New Year's Eve party favors, and live band for dancing.
so we are thinking about that... has anyone ever went on that before?

Yes...
The "countdown" is usually at the ferry building and they block off that portion of the embarcaderro.
Done it a couple of times...Probably nicer on the hornblower
Go to the piers, such as pier 39, or any area that is closer to the Golden Gate Bridge. You could make a night of it, first go to dinner, then take the Trolley from Union Square to the piers to see the fire work show. There are very nice restaurants, I tend to go to Cheese Cake Factory on top of Macys (try to eat outside if weather allows, nice view). Anyway's, you don't need to go to Vegas, if this is your first New Years in the Bay there are many things to do. Im not old enough to go out clubbing, but in the past I have heard my father talk about Harry Denton's Starlight Room in the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. Maybe go on the website, check it out maybe it will be your thing.

That New Years cruise sounds awesome! But I think the holidays will preclude me from attending another one for a little while...

I love Vegas.. only problem is that everything is really overpriced on New Years, moreso than anywhere else at least.
