Default Will police ticket for tint when parked

I am new to california and I was wondering if cops would give you a ticket for illegal tint if your vehicle is parked. I have 20% tint if anyone is wondering. Thanks

I would say no since in order to measure they have to shine a special tool they have that indicates the amount getting through on the inside of the vehicle. If so, could be easily challenged in court.

Yes they can. In Cali, no amount of tint is allowed on the front windows.

The question is if you were parked on private property can't you just say that the car is for show purposes and not driven on city streets?

Tint on front window is illegal....

Lowest you can get on side windows is 20%. (what I've been told. Some say 35%)

Rear you can go to 5%

I don't think they will ticket you if you are parked unless they have a reason to look at your vehicle. For example if a Z of the same color was recently stolen.

When I got a speeding ticket 2 years ago I had 20/5 tint and CHP didn't say anything.

Have tinted all my vehicles, never a ticket and never even asked about them.

yes you can. Especially in SF. Cop likes hungry vampire. Their definition of illegal tint: If they can't see the driver then you're tinting too dark. Regardless of what %.

i think the chances of getting a ticket for tint while parked is quite slim. you have a better chance at getting a no front plate ticket while parked than illegal tint.

SF DPT is ruthless...

10+ cars were towed in front of my office yesterday. I watched from my office window while the cars were taken away one by one, with their alarms still sounding off!

Sorry for the thread hijack.....

If it is parked on public property then they can ticket for whatever violations they can see. That doesn't mean you'll automatically get a ticket, my wifes car had over 35% front window tint on her car (we moved from houston) and she never got a ticket for it, never even been stopped.

One thing I know for sure is they will ticket if you park in the public parking at LAX. They have been getting people for no front plates there. It's easy pickins. What's worse is you have to pay to park there AND pay the ticket.

alright so if I don't want to get a ticket for tint or no front plate, I should avoid public parking and go for parking in private structures/lots

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't know what the ticket is for the tint, but I know for no front plate they give you a fix it ticket. Basically you just have to show that you have a front plate and you pay $10. Search the forums and you can see how others have attached their front plate w/o drilling the holes in their bumper (I got a thing that I can screw into where you attach the tow hook).

in downtown sf you cannot park on a lot of streets from 4p-6p. some streets are even 3p-7p. they do this to ease traffic congestion.

My office is in front of the caltrain station in the city. they had signs up for no parking on 1/16. People ignored it because it was a holiday. Suckers!

I see a lot of cars get towed every day... You can only park on my street for 2 hours then you have to move or suffer the consequences!

parked my car at SF, received a ticket for cover up license plate and front tinted windows. $50 for the plates and TO BE NOTICES for the tinted windows. Never got the notice and end up not paying anything nor have to remove my tints.
