Default 1002rwhp from my Z!!!!!

One of my friends with a supercharged NSX took me to this private shop in South San Francisco, saying the guy is very talented at tuning the UTEC. The guy's name is Simon Fiorez (sp?). I have always been on the Unichip tuned by Ted to just over 500rwhp, on the stock block. And I wanted to see what the UTEC can do that the Unichip can't. So I took it to the guy, saying he will "lend" me a UTEC and tune it for me, and if I don't like it, I can just return it. Keep in mind that I am planning on a rebuild soon so I thought what the hell. So there I went.

I got the car back the same afternoon, and it was pulling pretty strong...but there were TONS of audible detonation when I push it. The tuner said it would be safe to run 15psi, and he said I made 1002rwhp on his dynopack!! This is total BS, so I took it out for a drive for a couple of days. Filled her up with 100 octane, and still detonating like crazy. So I backed it off and took it back to Simon to get my Unichip back, which he did, and now it's running fine again.

It pulled really hard, but there was NO WAY it would be that high a number. Especially on a stock block with 15ish psi. It was probably a second gear pull with his own "custom" correction on the dynopack, just to show the number thinking I'm just a dumb a$$ who would pay for it.

I have to admit though...I was a dumba$$ for even trying this, but just wanted to see as it was a "reliable" source from my friend. Oh well. I'll be taking my car back to Ted tomorrow morning to get it checked. Can't wait for the real buildup.

Just a heads up in case you take your car to this guy. Knowing what happened, I would lay a smackdown before handing over my keys.

If there was tons of audible detonation when you pushed it, can you imagine what this guy was doing to the engine while he was "tuning" it. Lets hope that he just slapped on a program and didn't even try tunign it, or smth stupid like that....my god, lets find out where this "tuner" ******* lives and go disembowel him with a wooden cooking spoon... sometimes I am surprised how some of these tuners are breathing in and out...

I'd drive it for a couple of hundred miles to rule out any hairline cracks in the pistons while keeping an eye on things. I'm sure Ted will tell you the exact same thing.

yea I know. I guess he knew I didn't know jack about the UTEC. Just wanted to see what the fuss was about on these boards. This bad experience probably turned me off from UTEC forever, even though it might be a good ecu in capable hands.

Planning the build up in April...might have to go sooner because of this...

This stupid part was that he actually told me that he dynoed my car at 1002rwhp!! Dude...any guy with the least knowledge of the Z would know that's not possible in these circumstances. And the stock APS turbines can't even push that much power...and it's not like it's my first day in the FI world. When I asked him, he swore that those were the numbers, and I was running about 1200bhp. Since he supposedly tuned a lot of supras, I assumed that he knew what that much power meant. But it DID pull a lot harder though. But I guess anyone can do that if they don't care about detonation.

you should note an attorney and then put this guy on notice... have him buy you another motor. most likely he did mess the motor up just not enough now.. your reliablity will be shot now with more boost most likely better have all your cards in the right hand at first

Hey, I am sorry you had a bad experience with you UTEC. Honestly, the UTEC will only be as good as the TUNER. The UTEC is a "tool" and if you don't know how to use it correctly it is no better than anything else on the market. It sucks you had a bad experience with our Product. I can only vouch for the capabilities of our products, not the ability of some unknown Tuner.

I recommend to anyone having a UTEC Tuned to give us a call. It is no big deal giving us a call to find out if the Tuner is reputable at all.

Thanks,
