Default Route 50 through NV and UT

Anybody ever driven this route? This is considered the Pony Express Trail. I'm thinking about taking a trip to Arches Nat'l Park. It's the most direct route and probably more scenic then I-80 but will make the drive longer, by how much I don't know. Taking the Interstates it's just under 1000 miles an 15 hours drive time.

I only drove Rte.50 / I-70 in UT. Went from Bryce NP to Arches NP and have to take Rte.50. Road was very nice and scenery. Never took it through NV.
Arches NP is very nice. You should consider Bryce & Canyonlands as well.
We went a few years back. Went to Vegas then Sedona, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands and Arches. 8 days and a $hit load of driving.

That was a whole bunch of driving. I would like to go to all the parks but I've only got 6 days and no co-pilot/relief driver. So I need to limit it some. Depending on how time goes maybe I can swing down to Bryce when I get back to I-15. I would prefer to stay north since I'll be coming back in via I-80.

Did you actually drive much of the local Rte 50 or just the sections that are part of I-70 an I-15?

I just drove Rte.50 that is a part of the Interstate. I don't think there's anything to see much on 50 in NV. I'd rather spend less time on getting there to have more time in UT. If you have time left after you're done, then take 50 back.
You make me want to go back again. It was one of the best trip I've taken.

I was just down there in May to Arches and Bryce for about a week. Took 5 to socal through Vegas. Ranger said there was a running stream after a 12 hour hike, UT is in a drought!!! Had to hike out and then drove to Salt Lake City. The road is nice and flat but like Chad said, nothing to see. While you go over the hills of NV on 50, watch out of poe. It's easy to go fast around the hills and coming around a turn, NHP on the other side busted a U and he got a ticket.

Chad, I'm starting to think you're right about just heading out I-80 and down to Arches instead of taking 50. Saving some time in the initial drive and create extra for going other places.

Got a response from the Southwest forum and also got the impression it's a real drag of a drive through central NV on 50.

Time to start setting up overnight stay points and making reservations.

Thanks both for your inputs.

Bill
