Cal's good, but not that good. It's still a Public University, which public regulations like granting lenient acceptance for transfer students impede it from being a Harvard or MIT. Cal's not that much better than any other UC.
I use to work at a software start up which was founded by UCB alumni back in the east bay. Most of my co-workers were of course graduates of Cal. There wasn't a big difference in performance between the Cal graduates and other 2nd tier UC graduates, but I do notice MIT/Stanford alumni are much higher caliber than most UC grads.

 

^ I actually have to agree with this. Although there are brilliant students at all o the top tier schools, the top private schools have much higher caliber students on average. I know at berkeley, many people in my classes are absolutely r*tarded, whereas when I visited stanford... wow.

 

i went to carngie mellon, i can tell you there are plenty of retards as well, and i also know some retards at stanford haha
