Default Looking to move to Lake Merritt

I'm moving to the Bay for work, and my girlfriend currently lives in Lake Merritt and loves it there. and from what i've seen while visiting i'll like it too. I'm strictly looking for places with garages to keep my Z parked. Are there areas around the lake i should avoid? So far i'm avoiding downtown in favor of places like Adams Point or the north/western parts of the lake.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Everyone seems to dump on Oakland. East Oakland deservingly so, but Lake Merritt seemed like a nice place to me....

I live right next to Lake Merritt. It's awesome! Maybe we can have a mini-Z meet sometime.

I looked at places to live around there, I wasn't too fond of the place I looked at as it didn't really have anything going on around the area and it was kind of sketch looking. But that was just one area right off of 880 so I can't really judge.

I live very close now, in Alameda which is a very cool, chill place with a lot of out doors activities to take part in. I'd be in for the local mini Z meet.

I use to live on other side off of Grand. Lots of choices for apts w/ gated garages if thats what your looking for. I liked that area could just hop on 580 to get to SF and lots of lil' restaurants around there and PIedmont/montclair.

LOL, no not yet. It's funny you mention that because everyone I talk to warns me about the cops in Alameda and they will pull you over for going 26 in a 25 etc... so I have been very cautious when driving in town. I have seen them hiding on motorcycles around corners but luckily I have been always going the speed limit.

Are the cops here really that bad?

BTW, we should have a little meet somtime, because I know there are at least 6 or 7 of us that live around the Oakland/Alameda/San Leandro area - might be worth it.

BTW a group of about 10 of us older Z's did a meet/drive to the hills like a year ago. We meet for burgers at sparky's on redwood in oakland. If you want to do this post it up and I will let some of them know, if I am off I would head out there for it perhaps. Parking is good for only the 10-15 or so however.

I actually know a couple of white Z's that park right in my neighborhood. We could definitely set up some sort of mini-meet. "Mistico" (Felipe, sp?) with the LeMans '06 Z lives really close to us too and I'm sure he's down. I'm definitely looking forward to the upcoming meets (local or larger ones) since warm weather is right around the corner.

Good call on the garage. I used to own a place in the Regillus, old classic building on the corner of 19th and Lakeside. I had a garage space but would always notice smashed windows of cars parked on the street over night. It happened pretty regularly, like 2 to 4 times a month. Aside from that it was a really nice area. BTW there was this new condo complex that went up around the time I moved. There are a ton of units so I'd imagine a lot of folks would be renting them out. You can't miss it, it's the only newish big building on that side of the lake. Good luck!

Well it sounds like we have enough interest to have some sort of meet, perhaps Alameda isn't the best palce to meet given the police situation so if anyone knows of a good place where we could get together post it up and we can make it happen.

I'm looking at a few nice places in some choice neighborhoods in the Adams Point area, and near the Piedmont area. Is it unusual to see Zs parked on streets in that area? I just don't want mine to stick out like a sore thumb.

Also, if you do a meet, wait for me, i'll be up there at the beginning of May

I'm close to the lake as well and lived in china hill for a couple of years.

I really like this area.

I've seen a bunch of Z's around here. Mine is a weekend queen too, so look for the LeMans Sunset during the weekends

Highside, I'm down man.
