Not after 2003, basically any vehicle cited under a section, or subsection, of 27150 or 27151, to be corrected has to have a certificate of compliance from a smog referee station. The section that requires this is 27150.2(a) CVC.

Usually it is just cheaper and less of a hassle to just pay the fine...

Interesting, usually for stuff like this, you have to take your car to a State Ref to get it inspected since it is a smog-related issue.

I had to take my turbo off because of some punk a$$ pigs. Also, you can't just say screw the smog ref. They treat your case as if it was a murder case and you have to send in proof of correction to the court by a certain date. If proof is not received, a warrant will be issued for your arrest and your car may be impounded also.

Anyways, my turbo is going back on though this month or next.

I think they can give you an option of correction or just pay the fines. The ticket before this, the officer gave me no option to have the ticket signed off, i just paid the fines and that was it. I think the more severe cvc violations require the proof of state referee.

So you're quite sure this section code is to either pay fines, or to have the referee sign off. About two posts up, someone says that you're required to bring the car to a referee. Please clarify..thanks.

That is true. There is an option to just pay the fine but the d1ck officer who gave me the ticket didn't allow that. At the court hearing ( my lawyer represented me ), apparently the cop was on a mission to make me REALLY pay by taking it off but I didn't have to pay a fine on top of it.

Try to get it paid off.

Also, you will get a letter in the mail that will give you instructions. It will either say that you have the option of paying the fine or in my case, it will say something to the extent of 'this ticket is not elligible to be signed-off. There is no bail amount. You must bring your vehicle back into compliance' yadda yadda yadda.

If all you have on is an exhaust dude, why are you trippin'? You can take it off, get it inspected and put it back on in the same day. Atleast you didn't have to do what I had to do which actually included detuning.

Not trippin bro, just don't have the original exhaust anymore. Don't want to go through the hassle of taking it off and putting it back on. I dont want to go to state referee

Makes me wonder what the twinturbos will have to do if they get a ticket. Take them off and put them back on? Yikes...

If the ticket is so marked and the court wishes to do so, that is exactly what must happen as that is what I had to do with my system.

I usually work mainly on domestics but have been known to throw a clutch or exhaust on a few imports. Us car enthusiasts have to stick together!

If you must pay a visit to the state referee, yes.

Exactly what section did he use?
Right, they USED to be fix-it tickets. I just got one in Fremont, and it is NOT fix-it. I suppose the officer could write it as a different violation, and therefore allow it to be a fix-it, but mine is a fine of $127 or a court date. My no front license plate is a $10 fix-it or $110ish fine. Check sent for the exhaust, NO REF needed.

In addition, Smog Refs are EXTREMELYwell-trained and can spot even the most minute changes in the car. I failed my inital test because a vacuum line was not connected and it was an automatic failure. They said it would cause the car to run lean (which is probably true) and alter the fuel mapping.

The take mirrors and go under neath your car, your dash, under the engine. The even removed the Z's engine cover to check under there as well. They are incredibly meticulous. They also discovered my Greddy E-Manage computer system and even though it was disconnected, they didn't want to see it either along with any kind of aftermarket wiring.

It's amazing because they have a database that shows car diagrams and schematics and they compare what they see to the schematics and if anything doesn't match, they flag it.

I was worried that I woudl have to buy a complete new fuel pump assembly since mine was altered with a larger hole drilled and a Walbro pump but luckily, the pump was in the gas tank and they weren't willing to drop and get into the tank. I heard one of the techs say, 'hmmm, the pump is in the tank. I guess we'll have to pass that part of the inspection'.

I was worried because the pump is quite loud and sounds like a faint whine when on and I wondered if they were used to the sounds of normal Z's or even if there was any info on their database towards 'sounds'.
