Default Smog question

Anyone have any issues passing smog with forced induction? Looking at a few different 50 state legal kits but really worried about our strict smog laws. If you can list your setup so I can get a better idea. Thanks

Passing the sniffer is one thing - getting a CARB sticker is a whole 'nuther thing.

Just because turbo X puts out clean air doesn't mean that the company has spend the thousands (and thousands) of dollars to get it approved by the state.

According the the CARB DB, there are no CARB legal turbocharger systems for the 350Z. The Vortech and Stillen units are the only ones legal for the 350Z.

im a tech and unless it has the carb approval number, it won't pass the visual...meaning it'll fail the test.

Did anyone read the OPs post, I don't see the word "turbo" anywhere. He said "50 state legal kits" and as far as I know that is only the Stillen and Vortech at this point (although there are broken promises from others). Hopefully someone with one of those kits can chime in.

One issue is that with the 5 year grace period, only the oldest Zs, people with fix-it tickets or ones trading hands need smog. So take the small percentage of people with Z who are on this board, that have FI and have had to deal with this, and it is a fairly small sample.

The cops can still force you to register your car in Cali. It happened to me when I moved from the East coast to Los Angeles. I had a 85 Rx-7 that was Loud and blew smoke all the time. The cops hounded me till I put the smog back on and registered the damn car.
