If you did a donut, you were driving too fast.

Take your foot off the gas when you shift.

5000 RPM is too much if you can't control your car. Shift up sooner.

It takes time to learn how to drive. Don't just mash the gas, that's your first mistake. Powershifting (shifting full-throttle-pressed) in the rain is ftl if that's what you did (roads were wet yesterday). That's the only way I can see the Z spinning out from 3rd to 4th.... it just doesn't have the power to fishtail 3rd-4th unles it's wet.

Learn your clutch first, shift from a stand still in 1st to 6th with NO gas. The idle will do the work. Then just learn your car slowly and safely, once you know it you'll have no issues.

Also: if you were only at 4-5k, upshifted and redlined when the clutch dropped... which is what I think happened, you no doubt slipped the rear tires. I know when I want to burn rubber in 2nd I'll upshift from 1st halfway and drop the clutch at redline. 3rd to 4th would be the same if it's wet, and would have ... negative consequences lol (esp if you don't have LSD).

Agree. All manual transmissions are similar. What you may not be accustomed to is the torque made by the motor. A motor with 200 pounds of torque is going to shift different than one with 100 pounds. You just adjust your technique.

Sign up for HPDE immediately. Actions such as shifting should not be done in a turn. Push in the clutch is like applying the brakes - weight shifts from the rear wheels to the front. Now you have a understeer situation to contend with.

Members successfully drive cars with 300 and 400 horsepower and do it safely. I am sure you can cope with 200 horsepower if you figure out what you are doing.

Welcome to driving a RWD car

I did an accidental drift too during the 1st month with my Z

- Ask a friend to teach you how to "blip" the throttle when down shifting and going into turns. (or buy a 370z with sync rev matching - lol)

- Have your VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) on at all times while you get use to your car - I know soo many Z's that have turn it off and crashed...

- Driving a RWD car is tottaly different from a FWD; RWD distribution: all your power is in the rear and the front is all for your steering, but I'm not going to get into the physics on that...

GL - and just practice

I'm not sure what model u have or year, but there is a button located near the gas tank button, when it is turned off, there should be a indicator on your dash that it is OFF. When it is on, there will be NO indicator on dash

I'm betting he has a base model. LSD = limited slip differential, it applies power more equally to the rear wheels. If you don't have that, one wheel will spin faster than the other, which when combined with a surge of power creates a fishtailing motion that can cause you to spin out of control.
