who wants to make a 350Z video?
I have a high grade digital video camera [Canon GL1] and a new '04 350Z. Now I'm dying to put my toys to good use. I would like to produce a cool driving video of 10 to 15 minutes in length. In car shots, fast drive bys, etc... No moral or high minded story here, just exciting eye candy. I need someone to drive thier 350Z. while I film the shots. I live in Santa Rosa and would like to film on the roads in the surrounding areas.
I'd be willing to do it, but SR is just a tad far from my current place of residence (live in Richmond now, but I lived in Rohnert Park for six months before
).
I believe Krinkov operates his business in SR, he may be a very good candidate.

maybe we should do another Marine drive/meet? Have Kengray setup on Hwy1 for the nice twisties shots? It's not as far as Santa Rosa as for some of us, and not too far of a stretch for the cameraman. Of course this is Kengray's call. Maybe he already have a few spots picked out?
Where is the Marine drive location? I do not have any specific spots picked out yet. I first wanted to see if anyone was interested. Now that I see some interest, I will scout some areas. But, because of a shortage of free time [self employed] the areas will be in Sonoma county.
Also, I am open to suggestions about the video story. I haven't done a car video before. I want to do something kind of cutting edge looking, but not too artsy. Something that conveys the sensations that the driver is experiencing. I once taped a video camera to the gas tank on my '00 Suzuki gsxr750 and filmed looking from the driver's perspective. So in car shots would be cool. Drive by/ fly by, low angle shots sweeping into a corner. If someone has got the skills, it would be cool to some drifting.
But, before everybody gets too excited, I just want to say that I am an amateur with the camera, and it will take some experimenting and a few attempts to produce a cool video.

The Marin drive was the first group gathering of 350Z's in NorCal and was organized by a past resident of Marin. We tooled around the backroads of west Marin so there isn't a specific route.
There are quite a few roads that could be used but you should pick one or two that have areas for turning around so you can check and repeat shots as needed. Hwy 128 from Calistoga heading north might work. Also for doing the external moving shots it might help to have some Talkabouts.

Hey guys, this morning I found a some greart roads to shoot the video. Just south- east of Santa Rosa, Sonoma Mountain rd., Presley rd. and Warm Springs rd. They are linked with each other and in the area between Santa Rosa and Glen Ellen. They've got it all. Twisty, undulating pieces of tarmac in scenic settings. There are a lot of places to turn around, so repeated passes through a series of turns is possible. There is a mix of 2nd and 3rd gear sections/turns. I will go back this week and map out a rough shooting plan. I would like to find someone to do this with. In the next two weeks would be good. This morning [Sunday 10-5], around 10am, the light was really good. Sunday's are a possibility, but there were a few bicycle riders and some joggers [don't they know these roads were made for us] so maybe a week day morning, if you've got a flexible schedule. Wed., Thurs. or Fri. works for me. If not, then Sundays. I would like to find someone who wants to do this a few times, to learn and perfect it. The first video will probably be s**t. So I figue practice makes perfect.
kengray, I live right here in Santa rosa and am familiar with the roads you mentioned, plus Roberts Rd, Crane Canyon etc. lots of winding roads here.
I will be gone the next two weekends, but if you need some one after that i will try it. I use Crane Canyon to freak out the freeman nissan salesguys.

Hey, I'm in man... and being in Santa Rosa... should be a piece of cake! :-)
when I go drive, I like to go out Hwy 128 in Healdsburg, or Red Winery Road ... or drive over fountain grove, to Hwy 12, and out to Sonoma/Napa. Lots of stuff around here to zip around on, as long as there are no deer! hehe
Let me know when you wanna set this up, and we can have a lil Santa Rosa mini meet!

How about sunday the 19th of October. We could all meet and work out a few of the video ideas. I can be reached during the day at my store, Design Jewelers, in Montgomery Village. Anyone who wishes can call 569-1314 or drop by announced, or unannounced. Someone who works very near my store has been parking a 350Z SilverStone in the parking lot behind my store. It has 19" Veliside (?) rims. Anyone know who this is?
ON 10-19 we are having a meet. try to make it... there should be at least 8 zs and we'll be heading to treasure island so there's nice scenery and a great backdrop for your video. check out the other thread if interested.
Last weekend ZWINDSOR and I worked on a a video. We were on some roads in the Santa Rosa area. The weather was perfect and the lighting worked to our advantage. With the backdrop of vineyards and the tree leaves changing color the video will be very picturesque. The only downside were the roads that I chose were to tight and slow. Consequently, the video doesn't convey a sense of speed. I have been playing around with the editing in the VideoWave 5 program to try to make it look exciting. When I finish I will put it on to CDs that can be played on a computer. Anyone who wants one can e-mail at racerxdesigns@yahoo.com and I will send them a copy. No dinero.
Not being satisfied with this footage I went out this morning in search of new, faster roads. I found a great one. Franz Valley road. It initially was slow and tight, but eventually opened up to some real fast, flowing sections. Many of the corners I was taking between 50 to 70 mph with straight away speeds uo to 90 and 100mph. Great fun. Should make for a fast looking video. Who's interested. I can either drive or film. Or we can switch back and forth.
Franz Valley road is a little north-east of Santa Rosa. Take Calistoga rd. out of Santa Rosa towards Calistoga, turn left on Potter Creek(?) rd. then right on Franz Valley which eventualy meets hwy128.
By the way ZWINDSOR did a great job driving for the first video and was very patient with all my requests. His 350Z is sharp looking and handles very well. Thanks ZWINDSOR!

I am free this coming Sunday, Nov 2nd. we can meet-n-greet for lunch and a cruise (hopefully a fast cruise), or work on a video. Keep me posted. I can be reached at 707-569-1314
Ken,
Had a good time last Sunday. It was nice meeting you too. Can't wait to see the cd. How did the last run down the hill come out? I won't have any free time now until late November so hopefully Neur0sis or somebody else can assist in the next taping.
